2. Hello Team. It is that time of year again! We need
to prepare for the district-wide Summer Reading
Celebration.
3. HISD has chosen September 23 as the day that logs are due,
so please have your students to start turning them in
TODAY. The district-wide celebration is set for late
September . For the last five years, we have had our Annual
Hazel Hainsworth Young Library Party in the Stacks (Library
PITS)!
4. For the last five years, we have had our Annual Hazel Hainsworth Young

Year 2 23 participants
Year 3 121 participants (Recipient of Castro Foundation Award!)
Year 4 33 Participants
Year 5 Let’s do this!!!!
5. I am again, requesting the support of the ELAR Team in:
1. Collecting and encouraging students to submit reading logs
2. Party in the Stacks
6. 1. COLLECTING AND ENCOURAGING
STUDENTS TO SUBMIT READING LOGS
THERE IS NO SIGN UP and THERE IS NO REQUIRED LIST.
Students may list books, ebooks, graphic novels, audio
books, magazines, etc…
7. 1. COLLECTING AND ENCOURAGING
STUDENTS TO SUBMIT READING LOGS
I know what you are thinking.
What if a student list books that they have not read?
8. 1. COLLECTING AND ENCOURAGING
STUDENTS TO SUBMIT READING LOGS
In the past, some teachers have issued extra credit or
tied the campaign to a grade. Feel free to be
creative. After all, we want our scholars to be proud
of reading.
9. I usually tell students that once they submit their reading log, that their
teacher or I may ask them about any book on the list. The student has
30 seconds to tell me about their book. If the student cannot tell me
about that book, “book talk it”, then their form is disqualified. We
(educators) can tell if the student is sincere.
If scholars list movies that are not books, or made up titles, then their
form is disqualified.

STUDENTS TO SUBMIT READING LOGS
There is still time to get some reading in, so encourage
students to come to the library before school and during the
lunch periods this week, PLEASE give them a pass. Students
may also visit the library after school until 4:00 p.m.
11. 2. PARTY IN THE STACKS
Our students will be invited to a celebration during their
lunch time and we need time, person power, and funds.
12. 2. PARTY IN THE STACKS
Time and Person Power: Planning, decorating, helping to go
purchase items, serving food, providing music (streaming), Live
feed, and Tweeting, and chaperoning the event
If you know of any parent or community volunteers that have
been approved by VIPS, please let us know.
13. 2. PARTY IN THE STACKS
Funds: I usually request that our Name That Book funds be
used for this event. Our funds are low, so I am asking for
teachers to donate to the celebration. If we have enough
funds, we may be able to reimburse you from our NTB
account. Ms. Travis is checking our funding.
14. 2. PARTY IN THE STACKS
In the past we have had the following celebrations: catered from
Frenchy’s, Pizza Party, Subway Sandwiches, Hot Dog bar
I am thinking that we could tie the event in with a Hispanic Heritage
kick-off:
Hispanic food, infused music, door prizes for playing Loteria, free
books for students who are new to Yates
