What is Value Education
 Prof. J.S. Rajput, Director NCERT – 29.08.2002-
Memorial lecture “Human values in School Education”
stated that as the result of interaction with a large
number of the teachers, teacher educators,
educationists, parents and enlightened citizen
throughout the country over the last decade of 20th
century the most important concept emerged

inculcation, nurturance and development of values?
3.If education would not accept this challenge, who
else would? who else could?
Prof D.Ilangovan, HD Commerce AU 11.04-2020 8
The Purpose of Education System
 Education system obviously has a responsibility.

system so as to cope with the consequences of such
changes already took place
Prof D.Ilangovan, HD Commerce AU 11.04-2020 9

religion but the policy of religious neutrality
should not affect it

and disregard towards societal obligations

 India with her vast heritage of spiritual wealth can lead
the world.
 Indian Education (Kothari) Commission (IEC) 1966,
says “the adoption of secular policy means that in
political, economic and social matter, all citizens
irrespective of their religious faith, will enjoy equality of
right. But it does not mean an irreligious and anti-
religious policy. It does not be little the importance of
religions as such. It gives every citizen the fullest
freedom of religious belief and worship.
 It is anxious to ensure good relations among the
different religious groups and to promote not only
religious tolerance but also an active reverence for all
religious.” IEC (1964-66) observed – the absence of
provision for education in social, moral and spiritual
values. Prof D.Ilangovan, HD Commerce AU 11.04-2020 13

Forgiveness Through V.E.
Forgiveness
forgive (V) (i) to stop blaming or wanting to punish some
body for an offence
(ii) to show mercy
(iii) to pardon
Martin Luther king
-Forgiveness does not mean ignoring what has been done or
putting a false label on an evil act.
-It means, rather the evil act no longer remains as barrier to the
relationship.
-Forgiveness is a catalyst creating the atmosphere necessary for
a fresh start and a new beginning. It is the lifting of burden
or the cancelling of debt
Prof D.Ilangovan, HD Commerce AU 11.04-2020 20
Value Education is the Solution
-Forgiveness means reconciliation, a coming
together again.
-Without this no man can love his enemies.
-The degree to which we are able to forgive
determines the degree to which we are able to love
our enemies.
Prof D.Ilangovan, HD Commerce AU 11.04-2020 21
