Homeless means someone who unfortunately do
not have a home to live in.
There are about 3 million people experiencing
homelessness worldwide.
In 2012, the homeless population in the United
States equals 633,782.
In 2012, there were 162,246 homeless children
in the United States.

In 2012, 62% of the homeless were
sheltered, which meant they stayed
in emergency shelters or transitional
housing.
In 2012, 38% of the homeless were
unsheltered, which meant they lived
on the streets, or in cars, in
abandoned buildings, or other places.

What can people do for the homeless?
Take Action!
Understand who the homeless are- be a friend; treat them with
respect, treat them how you want to be treated; see them as
individuals and find out what they need; respond with kindness
Bring food; feed them
Have a fundraiser
Donate money, recyclables, clothes, groceries, toys, things they
need
Tutor the homeless; take them on trips
Volunteer at a homeless shelter

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission is a homeless shelter that provides
care and support to people who are in need. They have the
following programs:
Safe Harbor – the Mission’s refuge for
homeless, hurting men
Joy House – the place of safety and
support for homeless mothers with children
Cross Trainers Academy – a K-6th
grade Christian
school for at-risk children in the city of Milwaukee

Milwaukee Rescue
Mission to help the
homeless. Since then,
the Milwaukee Rescue
Mission has reached out
with compassion for the
poor, hungry, and
homeless of the

15. MILWAUKEE RESCUE MISSION
Each day, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission provide
food and shelter up to 400 men, women, and
children who might have nowhere else to turn to.
The Milwaukee Rescue Mission also provide the
training, support and guidance they need to rebuild
their lives.

government. They rely solely on the public donations.

We collected 361 pairs of socks during the week of
April 22nd

We visited the Milwaukee Rescue Mission on May 1st

We donated socks to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
We took a tour inside the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
We helped clean their school busses and vans.
24. Things Learned
104 employees at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission
151 students in K4 to 6th
grade in Cross Trainers Academy, which
is a choice school for at risk kids
Opens 24 hours
Any person who needs a place to stay can come there and stay as
long as they need
People there are placed in 6 months or one year programs to help
get them back on their feet
Have had doctors, lawyers, engineers, pregnant teens
Two moms and their children may have to share rooms due to the
limited space, but it is better
than living in the streets or car
People there are encouraged to go out
and not just stay in their rooms all day
There is a hospital close by but doctors and
nurses volunteer their time to do medical checks
People there get well fed with breakfast,
lunch, and dinner; a variety of choices; buffet style
