It was established in 1940 as Hindustan Aircraft and renamed Hindustan Aeronautics in 1964. HAL has over 32,000 employees and an annual turnover of over $2 billion, with over 40% of revenues from international deals. Key products include the Hawk advanced jet trainer, the Tejas light combat aircraft, and the Dhruv utility helicopter. HAL aims to achieve self-reliance in aerospace design, development, manufacturing, and maintenance.
