Top Ways to Help Animals in Your Community
Report Animal Cruelty- Keep a list you can reference
to call incase of an emergency; humane law enforcement officer, veterinarian, the
police department.
Neighborhood Watch- Keep an eye out around your community for any
suspicious behaviors- abuse and neglect, mistreatment of wildlife, animal left in car during extreme
weather conditions.
Volunteer- A great way to make a difference in the lives of many animals. From walking dogs,
and organizing fundraising events, to fostering animals, shelters across the country are in desperate need of
volunteers. LOCAL RESCUES: Rensselaer County Humane Society, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, Happy Cat
Rescue, Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary…
5. GET INVOLVED
Promote Spay/Neuter- Millions of adoptable animals are euthanized in
shelters every year. By spay/neutering animals, whether they are yours, or a stray you have come across and
was able to capture, you’ll make sure you are not contributing to the problem. Rensselaer County Humane
Society is providing low cost spay/neuter as well as vaccines for Hudson Valley C.C. Students. Promoting this
around campus, and hanging up flyers allows students to be aware of this great opportunity.
Animal Advocacy- Raise awareness for animal rights. Call or write local law
enforcement officials. Let them know that animal cruelty is a crime and investigating these cases should be a
priority. Help fight for the passage of strong anti-cruelty laws on federal, state, and local levels. The ASPCA has
the ADVOCACY BRIGADE, as a member you’ll receive updates on current laws to pass.
