Social science refer to the study of human behavior in society, encompassing disciplines such as
psychology, sociology, political science, anthropology, economics, and many more that fall
under this category. This article explores the definition and types of social science to give you an
overview of what it covers.
Historical Background Of The Social Sciences
Social science as an academic discipline arose from the Age of Enlightenment (or Age of
Reason), which flourished in Europe throughout the 18th century. Adam Smith, Voltaire, Jean-
Jacques Rousseau, Denis Diderot, Immanuel Kant, and David Hume were among the key
intellectuals who laid the groundwork for the study of social science in the Western world. Social
