5. Aalborg commitment 10 LOCAL TO GLOBAL: We are committed to assuming our global responsibility for peace, justice, equity, sustainable development and climate protection. Develop and follow a strategic and integrated approach to mitigate climate change, and work towards a sustainable level of GHG emissions. Mainstream climate protection policy into our policies in the areas of energy, transport, procurement, waste, agriculture, and forestry. Raise awareness of the causes and probable impacts of climate change, and integrate preventive actions into our climate change policy. Reduce our impact on the global environment and promote the principle of environmental justice. Strengthen the international cooperation of towns and cities and develop local responses to global problems in partnership with local governments, communities and relevant stakeholders.

6. Vision/ political approach Arrow head The strategy work on City structure is based on regional sustainable development and leads to ecological construction. A pilot of low energy use residential area will be planned, in which guidelines are provided for sustainable construction e.g. ecological ways of heat production, building directions and insulating layer thickness. Ecological city environment is part of corporate social responsibility. Sustainable production and procurement measures are supported e.g. in offices, institutes and businesses. Large circles are gathered for procurement. The growth of waste and emissions are alleviated and recycling increased . Better mobility decreases traffic. Public traffic, walking and bicycling are increased, keeping focus in commuting to work and school. Natural resources, nature’s values and scenery are preconditions for recreation and well-being. Biodiversity, air quality, water bodies and landscape structure have to be taken into consideration in planning the community. The City supports social equity and justice. Actions developing collective society are supported: - tolerance - socially diverse city structure and - employment.
