3.  Why?
• Identify locations positive for disease in a timely
manner in order to give livestock producers the
opportunity to make decisions on disease control
or avoidance.

4.  Goal
• Develop a mapping system that can automatically
update a map with test results on a daily basis.
• Develop a mapping system that users can access
at anytime through a secure web site.

5.  Started with volunteers willing to provide
site location coordinates and names along
with PRRSV PCR results.
 Site data was reviewed and verified
 Software designed and validated
• Result mapping is based off premise IDs
submitted on paperwork
• Paperwork needs to be accurate - everytime
 System was ready Sept 2012

6.  Participation
• Voluntary (not a regulated disease, not a
government program))
• Results/map available to users in the group
through secure web site with a password
 Map
• Shows location by ownership
• Text box (contents can be amended)
 Last three PRRSV tests results with date of testing
 PRRSV sequence – RFLP and interpretation

10.  Problems
• Are you comfortable with other people seeing your
results as soon as you do?
• Liability
• Mapping misinterpretations
 The first one positive is where it came from or started
 Who is and who isn’t testing?
 How frequently are they testing?
 I got my virus from you.
