The term "International Trade" is generally referred to the
exchange of goods and services between countries. In this
post we have compiled a list of wide variety of different terms
and terminologies that are widely used in International
Trade, Air Freight and Sea Freight industry.
2. Glossary of Sea Freight Terms
• ASABOSA: This refers to the Association of Ships'
Agents and Brokers .
• ASL: This is an abbreviation for the Association of
Shipping Lines
The width and the breadth of the ship is
known as a beam.
• Beam:
• Bulkhead: Any vertical portion that separates one
space from the other in a ship is known as bulkhead.
• Carriers: Those transporters and owners of ships that
provide services to shippers are known as carriers. This

3. Glossary of Air Freight Terms
• Allotment: It is used to refer to the blocked
space, which has been blocked by airlines for the
shippers and forwarders.
• ATD: It is an abbreviation for the word "Actual Time of
Departure“
• Gateway: For transport activities, gateway is the term
for the major seaport or airport. If taken
internationally, it means the port where the goods
where cleared by the customs.
• DDP: It refers to the Delivery Duty Paid.
• ETD: ETD is the abbreviation for the Estimated Time of

4. Glossary of International Trade Terms
• Acceptance: An agreement which signifies that the buyer
has agreed to purchase goods under particular terms and
under stated price is known as acceptance.
• Alteration: This signifies the process whereby there is a
change in the boundaries of a particular zone or subzone.
• Asian Dollars: This refers to U.S dollars, which are in store
in Pacific Basin and Asia.
• Booking: This refers to the arrangement with a transport
company to accept and transport the freight.
• Cash in Advance: This is the payment for the goods in full
before any kind of shipment has even started.
• Cost, Insurance and Freight: This refers to a pricing
