Discovering a garden of joy and
community of support
During a garden party, people toured the
community’s Prairieview Memory Care
Residences and courtyard and had a chance to
make terrariums.
The neighborhood—including the plant-filled
courtyard—is designed to provide individuals
who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s
disease or other dementia illnesses with a
supportive and structured living environment.
“At Prairieview, people enjoy full days
surrounded by supportive people and a pleasing
environment, including colorful flowers and
plants,” says Melissa Mahaffey, Touchmark
executive director. “‘This was a fun event where
families learned more about the services at
Touchmark and the great people who live here.”

A showing of style
Wearing fashions from the boutique A Flower Place, a group of residents modeled during the Resident Tea.
Victoria has worked for three years as a
care partner in Touchmark’s Cedar Court
neighborhood in the Prairieview Memory Care
Residences.
You’ll often hear Victoria singing with residents,
who love the friendly melodies.
Victoria first came to the United States in 1975
and attended Central State University, where
she received her master’s degree in Biology.
She returned to Nigeria, where she worked as a
teacher and principal. There, Victoria continued
her studies and became a minister of the United
Charismatic Healing Ministries. Soon after
returning to the US, she joined the Touchmark
team.
Victoria, who was born in the large city of Ibadan,
Nigeria, West Africa, enjoys reading, singing, and
traveling with her husband to visit family. “I love
to travel, and one of my favorite destinations has
been Israel,” says Victoria. Dubai is on the top of
her travel list.

Book club experiences culture and world
During its recent meeting, Touchmark book club members discussed A Thousand Splendid Suns by
Khaled Hosseini, who wrote the bestseller The Kite Runner. This novel focuses on several women in
Afghanistan. Some club members wore burqas (garments worn by some Muslim women that cover their
faces and bodies). “They don’t just read and discuss each book but experience the culture, food, and
lifestyle depicted,” says Life Enrichment/Wellness Director Carla Scull.
