1. Pearl Jam: Know Your Rights
How a rock and roll band is
fighting for peace and
promoting social change.
2. Pearl Jam on Mtv’s Unplugged
This was the first time I had seen this, or any band, nationally promoting
for a political cause. The year was 1992 and my love for Pearl Jam was born.
3. Bushleaguer
This is the mask worn, and often impaled, by Eddie Vedder during the
Riot Act tour of 2003. The band was actively trying to appeal to their
audience to get out and vote in the presidential elections.
4. WM3
Eddie Vedder at a court proceeding for the West Memphis Three. Sitting beside him is
defendant, Damien Echols, wife, whom he married while incarcerated.
Also pictured is a t-shirt design made increasingly more popular by the band. Their
efforts paid off as the wrongfully convicted boys from West Memphis Arkansas were
released from prison in 2010.
5. Vote for Change Tour
Pearl Jam, along with other artists like Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie
Chicks, and R.E.M. teamed up for a string of concerts dedicated to
removing then president George W. Bush from office.
6. The Race Against Chron’s Disease
Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready holds up a Lotus Stratocaster Signed by
Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Duff McKagan and Robin Trower, which was
auctioned off and proceeds donated to The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of
America, a charity which funds Crohn’s research.
