“Building a community economy” for relatively poor areas is a powerful idea.
Alliance to Develop Power(ADP) and United for Hire believes, and faiths for
enriching the social ties and cooperative ethic among its members and within
the community is just as important as economic development or political
organizing.

4. The role of the Alliance to Develop Power and United for Hire
These organizations are fighting for
better opportunities for poor communities,
well-paid jobs, a new ownership model, shared
benefits, cooperative ethic, political
transformation, and building power, not just
to resist and reform the injustices and
unsustainability produced by current systems.

● See solidarity economy holistically, as a
transformative social movement.
● Be open to the diverse and organic ways that
solidarity economy movement can emerge and
progress, particularly those that are driven by
need.
● Inspire and connect initiatives across sectors
and communities from local to global so that
we can learn from one another and scale up.
● Join up a transformative vision with resist,
reform, and survival efforts
● Build the solidarity finance sector, with funders
and investors who see themselves as part of,
and not apart from, the movement—as
Solidarity Funders.
