The document summarizes the design choices made for three magazine covers and a fashion spread for a magazine targeted at teenagers. For each element, the designer considered how to represent teenagers stylishly while incorporating the planned cover lines. Across all elements, the designer used a consistent color scheme of red, black and white and font to tie the magazine and fashion spread together visually. The covers feature models in poses and outfits relevant to the planned cover lines. For the fashion spread, the designer chose outfits and photos that fit an overall "dolls" theme and used matching makeup, hair, and photo effects to achieve flow across the spread.
3. When capturing this image I was trying to achieve a
stylish representation to teenagers but also to
combine the image with my cover lines on my
magazine which I had planned.
For my magazine my cover line mentioned hats
therefore, I placed a hat on my model.
I made sure she was using direct gaze and I thought
a middle body shot would be appropriate as it
would allow my audience to view the outfit but also
not draw attention away from my females face and
most importantly the hat.
4. I coloured the background in black as the
image originally included a shadow and
having the background in black brought out
my image and combined well with the red to
make my magazine bold and eye catching.
I decided to use red for my titles as it
combines well with my magazine title Alert
also, the colour red is alarming so it would
draw attention to my target audience.
I decided to use white for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and black so my colour scheme
combines well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine in two
different columns as it stopped my cover lines
from overlaying my image but also allowed
each cover line to be identified as a new
section.
I made sure my magazines combined directly
with my magazine plans.
5. When capturing this image, I made sure to
include a perfume bottle as one of the
cover lines was about fragrances so it
allowed the image to be relevant.
I also went for the style I did with my
female model so it was different to my
other magazine so it would appeal to a
large range of my target audience which
was teenagers.
Furthermore, I went for a mid shot to
allow the perfume to be viewed within the
image but also allowed her outfit and face
to be seen.
I made sure the whole image was in focus
so everything was viewed clearly.
6. I coloured the background in blue as the
image originally included a shadow and
having the background in blue brought out my
image and combined well with the red and
this allowed my magazine to have a
professional design.
I decided to use red for my titles as I used it
when designing my first magazine so to keep
my magazine linked I made sure red was used
throughout my magazines.
I decided to use white for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and black so my colour scheme
combines well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine to the
side of my image so it didn’t overlay my image
and allowed my magazine to look ecstatically
pleasing.
I made sure my magazine matched with my
plans.
7. I decided to go for a suit and tie to provide a
smart representation to teenagers. This also
allowed the image to link with one of my cover
lines which was about dressing smart.
I thought the pose of my model would draw
the audiences attention because it looks like
he’s about to communicate with them.
Also I made sure he used a direct gaze and I
thought a mid shot would be relevant because
it allows you to see his gestures.
8. I coloured the background in purple as the
image originally included a shadow and
having the background in purple combined
with the tie on my male on the cover to but it
also corresponded with the red of my titles to
provide a professional design to my magazine.
I decided to use red for my titles as I used it
when designing my first magazine so to keep
my magazine linked I made sure red was used
throughout my magazines.
I decided to use black for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and so my colour scheme combines
well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine to the
side of my image so it didn’t overlay my image
and allowed my magazine to look ecstatically
pleasing.
I made sure my design matched with my
plans.
9. I thought to include my male sitting at a desk
because it provided a student look towards my
image and this would allow my image to then
match with a cover line about teachers and
homework.
Also I provided him with a jumper because it
combined with my jacket cover line, and it
allowed him to look casual whereas in my
other magazine my male looked smart which
would then allow my magazine to appeal to
different ranges of my target audience.
I made sure my image included a direct gaze
and that there was no distracting items in the
background so all the focus could be on my
model.
10. I kept the background in my image the same
as there was no problems with my image so I
didn’t need to change anything.
I decided to use red for my titles as I used it
when designing my first magazine so to keep
my magazine linked I made sure red was used
throughout my magazines.
I decided to use white for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my image and it combines well
with red and so my colour scheme combines
well together.
Also I decided to layout my magazine to the
side of my image so it didn’t overlay my image
and allowed my magazine to look ecstatically
pleasing.
I made sure my cover matched with my plans.
11. For this image I was trying to portray a
“sleepover” image. Therefore, I placed
a baggy t-shirt on my model and
provided my female with a prop and
the scenery of a bedroom which
allowed a representation of a
sleepover.
I also had my female laughing because
it seemed like she’s communicating
with the audience and this is why I also
included a direct gaze.
I made sure my make-up would provide
my female with a doll look towards her,
and I tied her hair up to provide her
with once again the sleepover style.
I took a mid shot because it allowed my
outfit to be easily viewed but also the
scenery was partly in it but didn’t draw
attention away from my model.
12. I decided to edit my image to make it brighter
because the other images I had captured
where bright and to allow my fashion spread
to flow I need to make sure each photo
shared the same or similar effects.
I included my clothes description at the
bottom of the page so it didn’t overlay my
image and allowed my image to be the main
focus.
I decided to use black for my font as it’s easy
to read upon my photo.
13. I decided to use a medium close up for this image because it allowed my models facial features to be viewed more
and it looked like the audience could possibly be walking towards her as if they’re being welcomed into her home. I
also thought to include her smiling and a direct gaze because once again it would draw attention to the audience
and provide the idea that they’re walking towards her.
I made sure my make-up matched the theme of dolls along side my outfit and hair. Also I made my ribbons match
with my outfit so her overall combined well together.
14. I decided to use red and white for my title as the red was bold and stood out on my page but also it combined with the colour of the lips
on my model. I included the white stroke to allow the title to be read and bold so it was eye-catching but also so my audience knew it
was the title.
I thought to use the cover line I did because my fashion spread is for a teenagers magazine and teenagers are youthful and young. I also
decided to use the black and white because it allows my cover line to be read upon the page but then also allows it to match the outfit
of my model.
Furthermore, I included my outfit information in the bottom corner so it didn’t overlay my image and was easy to read. I also decided to
use black for my font as it combined well with my cover line. Lastly, I decided to place my title and cover line in the top right corner so it
didn’t overlay my image.
15. I thought to use a long shot so you could see the whole of the play kitchen but I made sure my model
was the main focus by having her in the middle of the rule of thirds. I thought to have her smiling on
the phone because it provided the representation of her talking to someone possibly the audience.
Also I made sure my models outfit, hair and make-up combined with the theme of dolls. I thought to
dress my model in a casual dress because that’s what I included on my other model.
16. I decided to edit my image to make it
brighter because the other images I had
captured where bright and to allow my
fashion spread to flow I need to make
sure each photo shared the same or
similar effects.
I included my clothes description at the
top corner of the page so it didn’t
overlay my image and allowed my image
to be the main focus.
I got rid of the landing from the image
because it allowed my photo to look
more professional.
I decided to use black for my font as it’s
easy to read upon my photo.
17. I decided for my model to use this pose
because it allows her to look like she’s
having fun and that combined with my
theme “lets play.” Which is why I had my
model pulling a odd face and using direct
gaze because it would appeal to the target
audience because it would look like she’s
inviting the audience to come and play
with her.
Also, I made sure my models make-up,
outfit and hair combined with the theme
of dolls so it ran throughout my photo-
shoot.
I made sure my outfit was also colour co-
ordinated and suitable for a trampoline so
my model didn’t look out of place.
18. I decided to edit my image to make it
brighter because the other images I
had captured where bright and to
allow my fashion spread to flow I need
to make sure each photo shared the
same or similar effects.
I included my clothes description at
the bottom of the page so it didn’t
overlay my image and allowed my
image to be the main focus.
I decided to use white with a black
outline for my text as it wasn’t able to
be read in black or white and I didn’t
want to use a bright colour as it
wouldn’t correspond with my other
fashion spread pages.
19. My magazines all link together as I’ve used the same colour scheme throughout
which is red, black and white. I’ve also used the same font all the way through
my designs and made sure the title was and slogan where in the same place on
each magazine.
My fashion spread flows together as I’ve used the same style and size font on
each of my images. Also, the outfits used combine with my theme so my theme
flows through each of my fashion spread images. Not only that but I’ve used the
same make-up on each of my models so you can clearly see each outfit is linked
which also allowed my fashion spread to combine well together.
My magazine and fashion spread combine together as I’ve used the same
colour scheme throughout them all. Also my fashion spread theme, outlines the
youth of teenagers as my outfits are youthful and my magazine is for teenagers.
Not only that but my magazine includes a jacket, and accessories which is also
mentioned in some of my cover lines within my magazine.
Therefore, I believe my magazines and fashion spreads flow on there own and
together too.
