  1. -Lockes position on the current state of PETE research in 77 -pointed out ‘good’ work and programs, “on the right track” -noticed trend of PETE research not scientific based, called field to change purpose behind research -challenged colleagues to produce quality studies to provide quality results
  2. -FLAW: That research being conducted in PETE is in response to the concerns of teachers and that educators pay any mind to the results of the studies conducted - Locke States it is a common misconception in the field is that research being done is assimilated by teachers into the classroom. - research in physical educationat the time the article was published was , “free from any reference to theories of instruction generated in adjacent disciplines such as education, psychology or sociology” (Locke, p.5).
