2. Post-modernism is the radical movement that
developed in the mid to late 20th century, this broad
movement covers the arts, philosophy, architecture
and the criticism of modernism.
Modernism contrasts to this and is the movement
from the late 19th to the 20th century. It celebrated
‘newness’ and wanted art and music to reflect a
new and contemporary society diminishing
traditional and old fashioned styles.
3. “Incredibility towards
metanarratives”
According to Post modernist theorists
such as Lyotard (left) any claims about
underlying truths mean there is no point
addressed. To a post modernist; all
modern culture is completely diverse and
completely fragmented, there is no theory
that can explain that.
4. Post modernism-
Style
Substance
Post modernism concerns itself with the
surfaces you see an goes against any
hidden meaning or depths, structure and
psychoanalytical theory.
It Is concerned with the depthlessness.
Personal identity comes under style over
substance as it shows a persons surface
appearance; which means it can be
changeable.
5. Jean Baulrilllard (1929-2007) suggested these 3 aspects underline the contemporary reality.
Simulation – living in this era of mass media causes the media simulation, we are
constantly shown information, whereby much of this experience is through a media text.
This is therefore a simulation which is dominated by TV, social networks, computer games,
internet and all other forms of media.
Implosion – this can be seen as one of the biggest and most important aspect in our lives,
Baulrilllard argues the distinction between reality and simulation which breaks down. We
can make no distinction between what is reality and what is a simulated experience.
Hyper reality – the experience when the reality and the simulated media become blurred
and no longer distinguishable, the ‘image’ aspect holds the power.
