Chapter 6- Listening and Taking Notes
1.) When you have no interest in class material, how does it affect you – your behavior, your
grades, your connection to others, your commitment?
When I have no interest in certain class material it affects me in many ways for instance, I tend to
start day dreaming and sometimes just goes to sleep, which makes me miss out on any important
information that the teacher is presenting at the time. In class I tend to talk more to the students
when the subject is boring and I feel is useless, rather than when the subject is entertaining, I stay
focus and stay to myself. My commitment to classwork and homework tends to be rushed so I can get
it over with. I feel that it’s a waste of time and I just want to get it over with. I usually start getting
bored with my work the first 5 minutes of the work.
2.) Come up with a positive course of action for Maya that might help her get something out of her
class.
I believe the first step for Maya would be to write a list of all the reasons why she chose to continue
with her education. Her knowing the reasons may promote her to stick through it and give her an
understanding that she need to stay focus. Next she needs a partner in class that she feels is really
focus so if there is ever a time that she feels as though she have zoned out and not paid attention in
class, she can use and compare notes to makes sure she has not missed anything, and she may get a
simpler understanding of the notes from the person that she has partnered up with. Reviewing the
notes 24 hours after class may also give her a better understanding of the material and she may find

2. that the material she is studying is something she can use in her everyday life, which would likely
make her pay attention more in the future classes.
