Speakers
There are twomain typesof speakers, active andpassive.
Active speakershave aninbuiltamplifierinthe bodyof the speakerwhereaspassive speakersneed
an external amplifiertofunction.
Here are subsspeaker.They’re goodforlower

size thantop speakers.Theyneedtobe biggerin

because theyonlycope withsmaller/higherfrequencies.Howeverwe

A sounddesk allowsyoutoadjust

can mix and adjustthe levelsof
soundto sendoutto another
output.
Thisdeskhas 16
channels
howeverourone
has 32, whichis

Thisis the gain,these knobshelp
youget ridof any unwantedringing

These are the eqknobs,withthese

These are faders,these givesthe

and can alsocontrol the soundfrom
these aswell.
3. Amplifiers
An amplifiersendspowerof the electrical signalssothattheycan thenbe sentto the speaker. They
are connectedtothe sounddeskbyan XLR cable andby a cable to a passive speaker.Active
speakersare typicallyonlyhave one channelbutpassive speakerswill generallyuse stereososound
can be sentto whereverthe operatorwantsitto go.
Microphone
There are twomaintypesof microphones,condensersanddynamicmic’s.Dynamicmicrophonesare
normallylesssensitive andtherefore betterfor
loudernoisesandlowerfrequencies(ie:drum
kit) but a condensermicrophone needsan
external powersupply(phantompower),this
will enhance the signal of the microphonesoit
ismakingit muchmore sensitive andbetterfor
quieternoises(ie:vocals,violinsect) andcould
alsomake the qualityof the soundbetterin
some cases.Both microphones(condensers,
dynamic) are generallyconnecteddirectlyto
the deskby an XLR cable howeveryoucanget
signal transmitterthatcan senditwirelessbut
the signal can be intercededanddisruptedand
the soundqualitycandecrease.
Anothertype of microphone are radiomic.Theysendthe signal wirelesslytoareceiver separate
whichconnectsbya XLR cable intothe sounddesk.Thismakesitcontrollable justlike astandard
channel.Because they’re wirelessthey’regoodfortheatresasthe actor/rescan move aroundthe
stage withthemhowevertheycanhave some interference due toitbeingwireless.
4. ThisIs the soundlay outfor the Ringwood’sfortalent.We had3 mice (1 wirelessradiomicand2
condensermics). We hadone dynamicmicfor the setupof the drumkitand the rest condensers( 1
for the snare,1 forthe lowtom, 2 for the midtoms, and2 for the symbols). We hadtwostandsfor
the condensermicsforthe symbolsso theywere above themsowe couldget the bestsoundfrom
them.
