About Uttarakhand
• Uttarakhand is located at northern part of India and famous for its hilly regions and pilgrim places of
Hindu religion. The Char Dham Yatra the most scared pilgrimage for Hindus is located in this state.
Dehradun is the capital of this sate. The state is divided into two main regions Kumaon & Garhwal .
• The confluence of river Ganga and Yamuna is know as Prayag. Similarly in the upstream there are
many such confluences and these are located inside the state of Uttarakhand.
• It is surrounded by the snowy peaks of the majestic Himalayas, the province of Uttarakhand is one

Almora
• The ancient town of Almora, before it's establishment was under the possession of Katyuri king
Baichaldeo. The town of Almora is situated over a horse saddle shaped ridge of a mountain.
• The eastern portion of the ridge is known as Talifat and the western one is known as Selifat. The
market is at the top of the ridge where these two, Talifat and Selifat jointly terminate.
• The best season to visit is from March to June and September to November and the temperature is
4.4ºC to 29.4ºC.
• The main attractions are Lakhuudiyar, Phulseema and Pharkanauli.

Auli
• Auli has now become a leading tourist spot, nestled in the lap of snow-capped peaks of the Garhwal
Himalayas, in the Chamoli district of Uttaranchal, and near the world-famous religious shrine of
Badrinath.
• The conditions for skiing are perfect at Auli. The season extends from January to March during which
time skiing festivals. While its slopes beckon daring and gallant skiing enthusiasts, its pristine natural
beauty and its alpine atmosphere lure many tourists.
• A heaven for those who want to escape the lackluster of everyday life, conquer their fear of heights,
savour nature in its purest form or just throw snowballs at each other.

Chamba
• About 50 km from Mussoorie is the small hill town of Chamba, Uttaranchal. Chamba is yet another of
those destinations which still stand oblivious to most.
• The temple architecture found in Chamba present a subtle picture of Indian sculptures. The lush
green boulevard of the hill station is the key epicenter for the popular Sui Mata and Minjar festivals.
• The Hill Station is cool to warm in summers, whereas, it is cold in winters. The hill station is open for
the visitors all through the year.
• The main places to visit Chamba are Tehri Garhwhal, Kempty falls, Dhanaulti and Kaudiyala.

Champawat
• Champawat, the ancient capital of the Chand rulers, is well known for its temples and natural beauty.
Champawat once been the capital of the Chand Dynasty is a historical place of Kumaon.
• The city is famous for the beautiful architecture and carvings on the temples, Baleshwar Temple
being one of them.
• Champawat offers the tourists with virtually everything they expect from nature, ranging from
pleasant climate to varied wildlife and good places to trek.

Dehradun
• Dehradun is the Capital of Uttarakhand. The name Dehradun is a collection of two word "dera"
meaning Camp and " dun" meaning valley. Dehradun has now become an important tourist
destination. It is one of the most beautiful resort in the sub mountain tracks of India, known for its
scenic surroundings.
• The climate of the city is temperate. Even during summer, it is not so warm at Dehra Dun as in the
district south of it.
• The main attractions are Shopping centres like Paltan Bazaar, Rajpur Road Market and Astley Hall.

Dhanaulti
• Dhanaulti showers tourists with natural splendours all round the year. The region receives snowfall
during winters making it even more captivating destination.
• Dhanaulti, located amidst thick, virgin forest of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak, has an atmosphere
of the long wooded slopes, relaxed outdoors, cool caressing breeze, warm and hospitable
inhabitants, lovely weather and fabulous view of snow covered mountains makes it an ideal retreat
for a relaxed holiday.

Haridwar
• Haridwar is located in the foothills of Shivalik range, reputed as the gateway to the four pilgrimages
in the Uttarakhand region. Haridwar has earned fame as being the place which has been blessed by
the trinity of Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
• Haridwar is one of the first towns to be developed on Ganges and is still lush and green with forest
and trees. The city acquires a unique charm in the evening when the ghats become breath takingly
beautiful with thousands of Diyas and Marigold floating in the waters of Ganges.
• The main attractions are Har ki pauri, Mansa Devi Temple, Chanda Devi Temple and Saptarishi

Kausani
• Kausani is a destination for Himalayan tourists, often referred to as the 'Switzerland of India‘, offers
the magic of the deep pine forests and the majestic mountains. The place offers a 350 km view of the
Himalayan peaks like Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli.
• The sunrise and the sunset are the special moments for the nature lovers and the photographers
alike. The best season is between April and June, and again between September and November.
• The major attraction at Kausani is that it offers wondrous vistas of the Kumaon Himalayas. Other key
destinations are Anashakti Ashram and Lakshmi Ashram.

Mussoorie
• Mussoorie is among the most popular hill stations of India, and is called the Queen among the hill
stations. The city always remained unofficial - for the affairs of heart. It has always been a gossipy
place - with an air of informality and a tradition of romance - The Honeymoon capital of India.
• The holy and mighty river Ganga is visible from one end of the ridge and another famous river
Jamuna from the other, a stretch of around twelve miles in all, from Cloud's end in the west to
Jabarkhet in the east.

• The main tourist attraction are Gun hill, Camel’s back road and Nag devta temple.

Nainital
• Nainital is the most popular tourist destination in Kumaon region. It's a pleasant hill station. The
Nainital Lake is shaped like an eye and the town derived its name from the combination of Nain (eye)
and Tal (lake). The Naina Devi temple is located at one end of the lake.
• For tourists looking for hustle and bustle the best time to go is the summer months when a lot of
traffic ascends from Delhi and the plains. The town gets equally crowded during the September/
October season. During the winter, Nainital is quite another beautiful experience when it reverts
back to the local population and the crowds are absent.

Pauri
• Pauri is the headquarter of the district Pauri Garhwal and the Garhwal Division. Pauri provides a
panoramic view of the snow clad Himalayan peaks of Bandar Poonch.
• Pauri Garhwal is ringed by the districts of Chamoli, Nanital, Bijnor, Haridwar, Dehradun, Rudraprayag
and Tehri Garhwal. Filled with places of tourist interest, most locations in Pauri offer a breathtaking
view of the snow - laden Himalayan splendour.
• The region has a sub-temperate to temperate climate, which remains pleasant throughout the year.
The climate of Pauri is very cold in winter and pleasant in summer.

Pithoragarh
• Pithoragarh is the easternmost hill district of the Uttarakhand , often referred as 'Miniature Kashmir‘.
The town is set in a valley popularly known as "Soar" (root meaning is Cool) and lies in the centre of
four hills Chandak, Dhwaj, Kumdar and Thal Kedar.
• Below these lofty snow bound mountains, there are many charming mountains, alpine meadows and
glaciers, namely Milam glacier, Ralam glacier, Namik glacier and Sunder Dhunga glacier.
• Pithoragarh town, being in the valley, is relatively warm during summer and cool during winters. It
has extreme variation in temperature due to much altitude gradient.
• The main attractions are Chaukori, Thal and Kot Gari Devi.

Ranikhet
• Ranikhet , also known as Queen`s Field, is a popular picturesque hill station and located in Almora
district. The place derives it name from the Rani Padmini, queen of Raja Sukherdev, the local ruler.
The queen was awe-struck by the beauty of the place. Ranikhet is considered as a divine and holy
place that offers beautiful and clear panoramic views to the travellers.
• The best season to visit Ranikhet is in between March to October. This hill station also gets snowfall
during the winters especially in the months of December, January and February. Through July and
August, Ranikhet experiences heavy rainfalls because of the influence of south western monsoons.
• The major key attractions are Chaubatia Orchard, Trishul Peak, Jhula Devi Temple, Golf Course and
Christ Church .

Rishikesh
• Rishikesh is one of the most popular pilgrim centres and gateway to the Himalayan Shrines of
Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. One of the many pilgrimage destinations in the
Himalayas, Rishikesh is where Raibhya Rishi is believed to have done penance to please God who
appeared as Hrishikesh, hence the name.
• The great Ganges leaves behind her mountain home and enters the vast plains of Northern India.
Millions of Hindus come here every year hoping to absolve their sins by bathing in the holy Ganga.

Udham Singh
• Udham Singh Nagar, which was a part of district Nainital, lies in the vicinity of the spectacular
Kumaon. The district was named in memory of Late Shri Udham Singh who was a great freedom
fighter. The district comprises of three main sub divisions Rudrapur, Kashipur and Khatima and is
surrounded by the exotic Himalayan ranges.
• Udham Singh Nagar is basically an industrial town. People from Kashmir, Punjab, Kerala, Uttar
Pradesh, Garhwal, Bengal, Haryana, Rajasthan, Nepal, and Naidu live in groups in this districts. This
country is an example of ‘unity in diversity’ with people from many religions and professions.

Valley of Flowers
• The valley of flowers, nestled high in West Himalaya, is renowned for its meadows of endemic alpine
flowers and outstanding natural beauty. Valley was declared a national park in 1982, and now it is a
World Heritage Site.
• Valley of flower is splashed with colour as it bloomed with hundreds different beautiful flowers,
taking on various shades of colours as time progressed.
• This U-shaped alpine valley, formed by retreating glaciers, remains snow-covered from November to
May. When the ice thaws in June, the valley is rich with herbs, medicinal and flowering plants, which
burst into a profusion of color in July and August. The valley is snowbound from November
to May.

Corbett Leela Vilas
• Corbett Leela Vilas is located just 10 minutes
away from the Bijrani entrance gate of the park.
The park is rich with Flora and Fauna.
• In Corbett, there is a total of 488 different
species of plants. It has over 585 species of
resident and migratory birds that includes the
crested serpent eagle, the blossom-headed
parakeet and the red Junglefowl.
