Opening Statement: Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and the Roles of Institutions
2. Even as a journalist, I have
made it my personal crusade to
raise awareness on
disaster resilience.
3. The Climate Change Act
of 2009 (RA 9729)
provides the strategic
framework for a
comprehensive program
on climate change.
4. The Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Act (RA 10121)
puts in place a disaster risk reduction
and management approach that is
comprehensive, integrated, and pro-
active in lessening the socio-economic
and environmental impacts of
disasters, including climate change.
7. Only 0.4%, or $ 13.6 billion of $ 3 trillion, of the
total amount spent on international aid has been
allocated for disaster risk reduction programs.
