The burgeoning age of cumulative technology
and self-assured anthropology was no
longer interested in transcendences or
celestial globes. With the astronomic, visual and
philosophical destruction of the sky, its
representations too were condemned to
pointlessness. Henceforth, the word sky would no
longer refer to anything more than an
optical effect that appear in the medium of a
planet’s atmosphere when the cosmos is
perceived through human eyes. This sky proved
metaphysically empty and anthropologically
indifferent. Suddenly humans were the creatures
that had no business up there, but much to lose—
namely themselves. Consequently, the sky at best
constituted an aeronautical task, not a meta-
physical or globographic one……………Thus the
riches of humans should no longer be wasted on
imagined heights
