2. Relationship between the lyrics and
visuals:
The visuals in my music video will
both illustrate and amplify the
lyrics, for example the lyric ‘listen
to the music of the moment
people dance and sing, we're just
one big family’ while the visuals
will show Conrad and Abi, having
fun, laughing and joking together
as if they are a family, this will also
be supported by the flashbacks of
their childhood.
3. Relationship between the lyrics and
visuals:
There is also a moment when the lyrics
are ‘I've been spending way too long
checking my tongue in the mirror. And
bending over backwards just to try to
see it clearer, but my breath fogged up
the glass
and so I drew a new face and I
laughed’ while the visuals will show
Conrad trying on new outfits, such as a
gothic style, geek style and street style
to attempt to fit the image Abi is
looking for, he then smiles and laughs
it off, as if he is thinking this is a silly
idea. In the lyrics he is explaining to
attempt new styles and being
someone else, therefore we have
made this connection between the
visuals and lyrics.
4. Relationship between music and visuals:
At the beginning of the music video, the
tempo of the song begins to build up,
we can then visually see Conrad is set
out to find the love of his life and he will
have an adventure to get there, this will
be surrounded by bright colours which
will help convey the joyous moment. In
addition, a similar thing will happen
towards the end of the music video, the
tempo of the song will slow down and
we will be able to visually see the couple
together, the sun will be setting in the
background and the composition will be
filled with subtle colours to help portray
the relaxed atmosphere. During the
beginning and ending of the song, the
cuts will be long and slow to help fit in
with the tempo, however when the
chorus arrives, the use of close ups and
fast cuts will appear.
5. Particular music videos have their own music style and
iconography (codes and conventions):
Pop/soul music videos usually base their videos in
naturalistic lactations to help create the cool and calm
atmosphere. In addition to this, typical pop music videos
usually base their music products on romance, whereas
soul music generally bases their narratives on family and
friends, therefore we have combined these two
conventions but creating a relationship between two
teenagers who have known each other their whole life
(which many people can relate to) to help not only to our
primary target audience but the secondary.
In addition, usually pop soul media product have heavy narratives, therefore this provoked us to
adapt a detail and in-depth narrative to keep the audience hooked on the storyline.
Mono-tone colour scheme is used frequently in this type of media texts, considering it is being
filming outside (beach, pier and fairground) the lighting we be natural throughout the video,
helping to fit into this convention. Using bright colour may attract the wrong target audience.
However, in pop media products, usually they are extremely performance based but include
clear narrative that reflects the meaning of the lyrics. Taking mind we are using a sub genre, we
need to take consider both conventions in the two genres, therefore even though we have
created a heavy narrative, we have also conducted a fun, lively performance scene with an
interesting location, so it is able to be a part of the narrative as well.
6. Demand of close ups to promote their
image:
Similar to other music videos I have analysed,
the use of close ups of the artist has been in
demand to help promote their image,
therefore it is simple that we will use a lot of
close ups of Conrad during the performance
scene. We will capture various shots from
different angles, so we are able to alternate
with different shots. The use of close ups will
only be used in the chorus, because this is
when the tempo starts to get up-beat and
lively. In the other versus, there will be
common display of long shots and mid shots.
This means we are able to experiment with a
wide variety of shots.
In addition, on the digi-pack, we will also
want to display a close up image of Conrad,
preferably on the front or back of the album
cover, so he is easily recognisable to the
audience.
7. A frequently notion of looking:
There will be a notion of looking
where Abi is looking for Conrad
when he has walked off in
disappointment. To evidently
establish this we will capture
various shots of Abi looking for
Conrad, we will then intertwine
this, so it looks continuous

There will also be a notion of
looking when young Conrad looks
up from writing in his notepad to
find Abi starring at him.
9. Intertextual references from other forms of
media e.g. film, television, series, music videos
etc: The costumes in my music video so
have reference to Taylor Swift’s
‘Mine’ music video, due to the sharp
snaps of dark clothing, with colourful
themes. However, it does have an
Intertextual reference from the film
‘500 Days of Summer’ due to its non-
linear narrative and romance plot in
which Tom likes Summer, they fall in
love and clips of the couple having
fun, laughing and joking are displayed
however Summer then finds another
man, Tom is disappointed, although
at the end, the couple are reunited.
In addition, there is also an influence
from reggae artist – Bob Marley due
to the tempo and instruments being
used in the song.
