When the worldwide growth of connected devices pushed demand for AccuWeather up-to-the-minute weather forecasts from
2 million to 4 billion requests a day, the online weather service had a category-5 data storm to manage. The company had to collect more
information from more locations and increase service speed at the same time, so AccuWeather adopted Microsoft Azure to store, process, and
deliver content in the cloud.
It deployed Microsoft Dynamics 365 to better gather, access, analyze, and distribute real-time data from more than 3 billion locations around the
world. AccuWeather has developed the speed and flexibility to respond effectively to 13 billion service requests a day—and now the forecast is for
accelerated business growth.

Welcome everyone! I am really excited to share our Dynamics 365 pitch with all of you!
I want to start by talking what exciting time it is for the Dynamics business.
On July 6, we announced Dynamics 365 to the market – our next generation of intelligent business applications in the cloud. We also announced AppSource, our new destination for business users to find and evaluate line of business SaaS applications.
With Dynamics 365, we’re unifying our CRM and ERP cloud solutions and delivering new purpose-built applications across sales, customer service, operations, field service and more. we’re also harnessing the power of One Microsoft, combining business applications and processes with the power of big data, advanced analytics and IOT, as well as deep integration with Office 365 for productivity.
The news coverage was amazing! We had nearly 90 global media placements – Including Forbes, the Wall street journal, Bloomberg and Techcrunch.
We also got great coverage from industry analysts. For example, Nucleus Research points out that few other players offer a common platform and data model for CRM and ERP… and none bring in the Office productivity capabilities as Microsoft can!
We also announced in September that we won the HPI business against Salesforce and Oracle in our largest ever CRM deal – again with great pickup from the media!
So let’s set the stage for our Dynamics 365 story with some market context.
There are some key market trends are driving changes to how companies think about business transformation and the applications that power it:
Customer engagement is evolving: Everyone is mobile, everyone is social, people trust opinions from their friends and peers more than they trust brands. And it’s easier than ever to switch to a competitor. At the same time, now devices are increasingly connected. It’s a whole new world where the customer has control. Having a deep understanding of customers and being able to create a compelling experience is critical to any company’s business strategy. In fact, by 2020, customer experience will overtake price & product as the key brand differentiator.
With finite resources, productivity is critical for businesses to scale. 40% of worker’s productivity time is lost when switching tasks. This costs the global economy $450B per year. Companies have automated business processes. Now they are looking to embed productivity tools directly into business processes to save time and get more productivity out of their employees. Source: The 40% loss of productivity when switching tasks comes from a study done by the American Psychological Association back in 2001: http://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/releases/xhp274763.pdf
Lastly, there is a new speed of business and companies need to adapt. New technology is not only enabling new business models, it’s at a much faster rate than ever before. To be successful, companies need to enable their people and processes to respond quickly to changes in the market to capture new revenue opportunities. Organizations embracing digital transformation generate an average of $100 million (or 8% points) more operating income each year than those who lag behind.
Let’s talk about digital transformation. Digital transformation is not simply about technology—it’s a business strategy that requires leaders to re-envision existing business models and embrace a different way of bringing together people, data, and processes to create value for their customers and capture new opportunities for their organizations.
Digital transformation means re-envisioning how you:
Engage your customers Empower your employees Optimize your operations And Transform your products
To enable digital transformation strategies – so organizations can grow, evolve and meet the changing needs of customers, as well as capture new business opportunities, companies need intelligent business applications… and that’s where Microsoft Dynamics 365 comes in.
Dynamics 365 is Microsoft’s next generation of intelligent business applications in the cloud. We’ve unified our approach to traditional CRM and ERP solutions and deliver new purpose-built applications to power digital transformation strategies.
Our Dynamics 365 applications power end-to-end business strategies, so companies can run their entire business in the cloud. Companies can manage specific business functions with applications across: Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Operations, Marketing, and Project Service Automation. These applications work seamlessly together, so companies expand to new functions as their business needs grow and change.
What makes Dynamics 365 unique is that it harnesses the power of One Microsoft.
Deep integration between Dynamics 365 and Office 365 brings together the two worlds of business process and personal productivity. We surface familiar tools like Excel and Word within the context of business processes, significantly increasing productivity and decreasing context switching.
Power BI and Cortana Intelligence are natively embedded into Dynamics 365 business applications for predictive insights, prescriptive advice and actionable next steps. Additionally, Azure IoT brings device data to enable preemptive action in business functions like field service.
Businesses can also adapt and innovate in real-time with a common data model and an extensible business application platform, including PowerApps, Flow and Power BI Embedded.
We have also introduced Microsoft AppSource so business users to easily find and evaluate line of business SaaS applications from Microsoft and our partners, across Dynamics 365, Office 365, Cortana Intelligence and the Azure platform.
Let’s talk about the Dynamics 365 advantage. Dynamics 365 brings together a unique set of capabilities for organizations. Dynamics 365 is:
Purpose-built: with applications that fit roles, industries and businesses – so organizations can start with and pay only for what they need and grow at their pace to run their entire business in the cloud.
Productive: enabling greater productivity where people need it by seamlessly integrating with familiar tools like Outlook and Excel, surfacing them in the context of business processes, roles and jobs.
Intelligent: delivering built-in Intelligence with business processes that infuses big data, advanced analytics and IoT to proactively guide employees and customers to optimal outcomes.
Adaptable: enabling organizations to transform at the speed of business. Business leaders can change and evolve their processes in real-time using a modern consistent, and extensible platform – so they are not being held back by legacy technology.
Only Microsoft can deliver the breadth of these capabilities in the cloud.
Now let’s tie Dynamics 365 to Digital Transformation – starting with Engaging Customers
Dynamics 365 enables organizations to build personalized experiences across all customer touchpoints from consideration to purchase to support by harnessing contextual data to get a complete view of customers, and draw actionable insights that can deliver personalization at scale.

Customers want quick resolution – whether it is learning more about a product, making a purchase or resolving a problem. Dynamics 365 enables companies to create effortless, outcome-driven experiences for customers by harnessing the power of advanced analytics, so companies can predict what customers want before they even know it.
Dynamics 365 helps organizations empower people to achieve more by giving them proven processes, familiar tools and intelligent guidance to take the next best action - so they can do their best work.
Dynamics 365 is designed to guide employees to the next action to take, whether it’s directly with customers or on the shop floor. Process guidance empowers every employee with best practices for how to do the job most effectively. Office 365 is infused seamlessly into business processes in Dynamics 365. The familiar, easy-to-use productivity tools that employees’ use every day are surfaced in the context of business applications (managing a sales pipeline in Excel, directly in the context of Dynamics 365 for Sales) so employees stay in the context of the task they are performing. Dynamics 365 delivers a modern user experience that works across devices and platforms and is inherently designed to work how people work. Advanced Analytics, based on Cortana Intelligence and Power BI is natively embedded within Dynamics 365 to empower people be more data driven, guide them to optimal outcomes.
Dynamics 365 helps accelerate the speed of doing business, improve service levels, and reduce costs with intelligent processes that anticipate the future and coordinate people and assets more efficiently from manufacturing to finance to retail.
Dynamics 365 for Operations, brings together a complete set of ERP capabilities across financials, demand planning, procurement/ supply chain, manufacturing, distribution and retail. Dynamics 365 provides actionable business insights through Cortana intelligence and Azure machine learning, as well as the flexibility to adjust business processes as needed. This enables companies to keep up with the pace of business and proactively shift or create new business models to take advantage of market opportunities. Business are able to get a complete integrated view into their business processes – from the manufacturing floor to sales and service - with the new common data model within Dynamics 365 so they can more effectively plan their business and deliver amazing customer experiences. The new Dynamics 365 common data model combined with Power Apps and Microsoft Flow allows business analysts to compose new applications and easily extend and modify existing business processes to adapt to new business models, customer needs or new trends in the marketplace.
With Dynamics 365, we’ve not only evolved our product strategy, we’ve also reinvented our approach to pricing and packaging – focused on simplicity and transparency.
Dynamics 365 licensing is predominately user-based. When we think of users, we think of 2 categories, Light & Full
Light is most of the people within a company …they look up customer information, they consume knowledge, they run reports, they complete light tasks like time and expense and create accounts or contacts. I am a perfect example of this. I approve POs, do expense reports and enter my vacation time. Our Team member SKU supports light users with a lower price point.
Full users leverage the majority of functionality – think of a sales rep, customer service agent, HR manager or Finance manager that works in a business application every day. They can PURCHASE TWO WAYs APPS BASED – this is the traditional approach to licensing. A customer can license a user at an individual application level. PLAN BASED: this is our New Licencing model, which we are very excited about: - Plan based licensing allows a company to buys a single user licence with flexibility to leverage whatever functionality they need to fit their specific user types. This means companies can create real world roles for their employees – who might be primarily in manufacturing, but need to manage customer orders and field service orders.
Why are we excited It is simple, flexible, It Improves ROI – buy one license
HIGHLIGHT – Role-based licensing provides users with full usage rights to PowerApps and Microsoft Flow to compose new apps and easily extend and modify existing ones.
AccuWeather is a great example of Digital Transformation powered by Microsoft and Dynamics 365
Worldwide growth of connected devices pushed demand for AccuWeather up-to-the-minute weather forecasts from 2 million to 4 billion requests a day, the online weather service had a category-5 data storm to manage. The company had to collect more information from more locations and increase service speed at the same time, so AccuWeather adopted Microsoft Azure to store, process, and deliver content in the cloud. It deployed Dynamics 365 to better gather, access, analyze, and distribute real-time data from more than 3 billion locations around the world. AccuWeather has developed the speed and flexibility to respond effectively to 13 billion service requests a day—and now the forecast is for accelerated business growth. And as AccuWeather reimagines its business models and introduces new offerings for their customers, they are adopting the Dynamics 365 for Operations to enable backend operations and new billing principles for these new offerings.
Let me wrap up by talking about our Roadmap. Dynamics 365 will be GA in Q4 of 2016.
We will continue our ongoing rhythm of innovation, with Fall and Spring releases for Dynamics 365 – adding new capabilities with each update.
Specifically, some key areas we are focusing on include- A Common user experience and integrated navigation – you will see a lot of this when we GA. We are redefining business processes to enable new end-to-end scenarios like prospect to cash. We are investing in a common application platform where power users can build custom applications with PowerApps And last but not least, we’ll deliver the common data model with integrations to existing application schemas to enable customers to easily build upon, extend and get the most from their Dynamics 365 applications.
Thank you for joining me today. We hope you’re as excited about Dynamics 365 as we are!
