Walking stick with heart attack detection

  1. 1.  The walking stick with heart attack detection is equipment that is used daily to indicate heart condition, to detect heart attack and to call for emergency help.  It was specially designed to help senior citizens and patients with heart disease.
  2. 2.  The national heart institute states that “more than 3 million persons in the india have a heart attack and about half of them die in each year”.  About one-half of those who die do so within 1 hour of start of symptoms and before reaching the hospital.  This heart attack detection algorithm consists of 3 basic sub projects namely ECGcircuit, analysis algorithm and Bluetooth communication.

  4. 4.  ECG circuit is worn on the user’s wrist, and the rest two are installed in the stick. The ECG unit captures ECG waveforms from user’s wrists by electrodes. It then amplifies and filtered the ECG signal.  Analysis algorithm unit receives digital ECG signal and feeds it to the microcontroller . The microcontroller runs the algorithm to detect heart attack and to raise the risk levels.  When heart attack confirmed, an emergency signal is sent to the bluetooth communication unit..Bluetooth module activates the user’s mobile phone to call 108  ECG circuit Analysis algorithm Bluetooth communication
  5. 5.  Previous project mentioned about benefits of ECG electrodes, we decided to use the same electrodes as biosensors. The benefits of the electrodes include good electrical contact with human skin.
  6. 6.  We designed the 3 components i.e unity gain buffer, differential amplifier and band pass filter.  Bio signals are came from the patient’s body. Differential amplifier will take the two bio signals and differentiate them with gain to get desired ECG waveform.
  7. 7.  Here we are doing an 8 bit data conversion using RS 232 feature.  Analog ECG waveform converted to Digital ECG waveform and it transfers to the detection algorithm using wireless communication.
  8. 8.  The microcontroller on the walking stick has received digital ECG data from the wrist, it will check for heart attack symptoms.  when symptoms are confirmed or risk level raises Bluetooth module automatically activated and call will go to the respected registered persons or medical help center.
  9. 9.  We can save atleast thousands of old people from death.  Easily communicate with medical help center by using GSM and GPS.  Equipment worn on user’s stick and wrist.  Equipment small in size.
  10. 10.  Cost is high.  Due to the lack of signal, call can’t connect to the help center.  If medical centers doesn’t react immediately, maximum chance of such person die after several minutes.
  11. 11. Using GSM there is a chance of lack of signal.  Including with GSM,GPS is more efficient in performance. Using GPS we can locate the location of the such person.
  12. 12.  By using walking stick with heart attack detection method, we can reduce the deaths of aged people who are having the heart attack disease.
