The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulates the food industry in India. Under the FSSAI Act of 2006, all food businesses must obtain a license depending on their annual turnover - a basic registration for under 12 lacs, a state license for 12 lacs to 20 crores, or a central license for over 20 crores. The licensing process involves submitting documents verifying identity and business details, undergoing inspections to ensure food quality standards are met.
