This presentation was delivered at IBM Connect 2014 and shows what's going to be delivered in IBM Connections in 2014. As usual, things will be delivered to the cloud first and at some point in the year we'll take the cloud base and deliver that to our on premises customers. Content and design subject to change at any time without notice.

If mobile devices were merely used to browse web pages, then they would not be very disruptive. But mobile is all about apps, and mobile apps have veered away from legacy browser technology. As a result a paradigm shift is emerging in the host platforms that support mobile. This presentation looks at the impact of mobile on the cloud, from a technology and business model perspective.

After introducing you to the application development strategy, let us show you how you can easily add social capabilities to all your applications, whether they are web, mobile, portal or IBM Notes and Domino based. All of this can come from a single set of tools called the IBM Social Business Toolkit SDK. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94N9FuicS-g Author: Niklas Heidloff The deck contains a sample scenario that shows how to leverage the great capabilities available in IBM SmartCloud for Social Business and it shows how to extend this functionality via (XPages) apps to implement specific business requirements. IBM SmartCloud for Social Business provides a big set of out of the box functionality. For example you can easily invite guests to your organization without having to add these people to on premises directories first. IBM SmartCloud for Social Business also provides a lot of social functionality like file sharing, forums and more. Furthermore with the latest release you can access files from you mobile devices even when you are offline. In order to implement specific business requirements that the SmartCloud might not provide out of the box, apps can be developed that use the IBM Social Business Toolkit SDK. The partner community scenario demonstrates how you can add workflow functionality and how you can have internal discussions via your own apps. Zeta Insurance is a fictive health insurance company which works with partners, the insurance brokers, to sell their products. The communication with partners is done via a SmartCloud community to which partners can easily be added as guests. Product brochures are stored in the community as files and brokers can ask questions about products via forums. The insurance brokers use the SmartCloud community user experience. The Zeta Insurance support team does NOT use the SmartCloud user interface. Instead the support specialists use an internal support app. This allows them assign questions to certain support specialists so that multiple people don't waste time working on the same questions in parallel. Furthermore the support specialists can have internal discussions before they post answers to questions from partners.

A business is, in essence, a vast collection of knowledge and information. It's what's behind the creation of benchmark products and services, and it exists as a web of insights and ideas shared by staff. It's in your documentation—your manuals, guidelines, lists, databases, memos, and files. And it's also in the minds of your team members, as the expertise you need to capture to enhance your business. Knowledge is power, and when properly harnessed, it fuels a successful company. Technology has had a tremendous impact on knowledge management (KM), inspiring the development of robust software platforms to leverage KM strategies. Knowledge management software continues to evolve in response to new demands and challenges. Let's look at 15 emerging knowledge management trends that are changing the course of knowledge management software.

Peter Drucker (November 19, 1909 – November 11, 2005) was a writer, management consultant, and self-described “social ecologist.” He is in every practical sense the father of modern management strategy. As a life long Drucker student, I’ve always imagined how he would have taught or wrote about Enterprise 2.0 and its impact on today’s management and companies. So I decided to turn imagination into reality (well… mine at least) and produced a presentation which I believe would have reflected Drucker’s view of Enterprise 2.0:
What if Peter Drucker Taught Enterprise 2.0 Strategy?

Dubai, often portrayed as a shimmering oasis in the desert, faces its own set of challenges, including the occasional threat of flooding. Despite its reputation for opulence and modernity, the emirate is not immune to the forces of nature. In recent years, Dubai has experienced sporadic but significant floods, testing the resilience of its infrastructure and communities. Among the critical lifelines in this bustling metropolis is the Dubai International Airport, a bustling hub that connects the city to the world. This article explores the intersection of Dubai flood events and the resilience demonstrated by the Dubai International Airport in the face of such challenges.

The action of the next cyber saga takes place in the mystical lands of the Asia-Pacific region, where the main characters began their digital activities in the middle of 2021 and qualitatively strengthened it in 2022. Corporate espionage, document theft, audio recordings, and data leaks from messaging platforms were all a matter of one day for Dark Pink. Their geographical focus may have started in the Asia-Pacific region, but their ambitions knew no bounds, targeting a European government ministry in a bold move to expand their portfolio. Their victim profile was as diverse as a UN meeting, targeting military organizations, government agencies, and even a religious organization. Because discrimination is not a fashionable agenda. In the world of cybercrime, they serve as a reminder that sometimes the most serious threats come in the most unassuming packages with a pink bow.

When you’re building (micro)services, you have lots of framework options. Spring Boot is no doubt a popular choice. But there’s more! Take Quarkus, a framework that’s considered the rising star for Kubernetes-native Java. It always depends on what's best for your situation, but how to choose the best solution if you're comparing 2 frameworks? Both Spring Boot and Quarkus have their positives and negatives. Let us compare the two by live coding a couple of common use cases in Spring Boot and Quarkus. After this talk, you’ll be ready to get started with Quarkus yourself, and know when to select Quarkus or Spring Boot.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.
