Revision: Most Great Writer
1. Global Revision
Every writer experiences the daunting task of writing, revising, perfecting, and completing a
paper, essay, or book at some point in life. Whether it is for school or a profession, writing and
revising papers will always be a part of life. While writing and revising multiple papers for Written
Communications, I learned a lot about my writing style, technique, and revision process. Through
complicated steps, I performed both global and local revisions in order to increase the clarity of paper
, erase all sentence–level confusions, perfect my ideas, and organize my thoughts into a coherent,
unified argument. First and foremost, I performed the global revisions. Global revision includes
revising clarity, organization, content, and the unity of paragraphs including the transitions. In my
paper, i performed a global revision in the way of paragraph unity and clarity. I made sure each
paragraph discussed only one idea and not multiple. One of the most confusing and unclear spots in
my analytical paper of the "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" was the paragraph in which I analyzed

This included eliminating expletives, modifying verbs, examining sentence length, and improving
diction. In order to exemplify my writing, I eliminated all expletives (except for the ones used in
direct quotes) from my paper. I only found one expletive ("there were") and it was after the word
that in the below sentence. My original sentence read, "By using a well known historical event ––
the Holocaust –– King illustrates his point that there were unjust laws placed on Jews during the
middle of the 20th century." After revising it and eliminating expletives, I saw a more concise idea
which was, "By using a well known historical event –– the Holocaust –– King illustrates his point
that society placed unjust laws on Jews during the middle of the 20th century." Eliminating the only
expletive in my paper helped clear up my

2. English 101 Goals
When I started out the year I had three goals when it came to English 101. The first of my goals
was that I was going to try and make a good grade in the class so I did not have to take it again and
move to 102 to be caught up with my friends. I did not accomplish this goal because I have been
trying very hard but obviously it just was not enough. My second goal was for me to try hard no
matter what and make my parents proud. I did accomplish this one to a point I did try my hardest
but I probably have disappointed my parents for not doing good in the class the first time around.
My final goal was to make new friends when doing peer reviews. I have accomplished this goal I
have made friend with Madison, and Ethan this year during peer review day. Revising has never
really been my strongest point when it comes to writing papers. Usually when I would write papers
whether it would be in high school or even for myself I would just turn it in the way it was and not
even attempt to revise the paper and would get good grades on them. Even if I would revise them
then all I would check is the word placement and commas to see if they all were correct and then
turn it in for the final grading and I would always get a high grade on the paper. This year I really
had to learn to revise better and I...show more content...
I looked for grammar to start out with which took a little while because I had to check the
punctuations and commas and see if they were placed right. Then I checked to see if all the
words were spelled right and see if I was missing any words that would make a sentence better
within a paragraph. After all of this was done then I went back to see if there were any quotes that
needed quotation marks and I even attempted to paraphrase every now and then. That is how I went

3. Editing And Proofreading
Editing And Proofreading Your Essays As Quickly As Possible
You have just finished your essay and it has taken you ages, and now all you have to do is run your
spelling and grammar checker and all is fine, right?
Wrong! Most liberal arts courses and even some of the sciences are going to grade your paper on
things such as clarity, communication, comprehension, and some will specifically require a
higher–level use of English. If you do not professionally proofread your paper, you will fail to
achieve even a mediocre grade.
Proofreading Is Time Consuming
Many marking guides are based on a leveling system where in order to get a higher grade/mark, you
must first pass certain milestones. If your piece is not correctly proofread, you cannot

4. Revising a Paper
Revising a paper literally means to "renew again", to look for something fresh in critical
perspective. Revision is an ongoing process of rethinking the paper: reconsidering the arguments,
reviewing the evidence, refining the purpose, reorganizing the presentation, reviving the paper's
perspective. At first, I thought revision was just fixing commas, grammar and spelling, but no,
fixing minor errors like grammar, spelling and punctuation are called, proofreading. Proofreading
is an important step before turning in a paper, but if the ideas are predictable, the thesis is weak,
and the organization of the paper is a mess, then proofreading will just act like a band aid to cover
the little scars on the paper. Writing is a process of discovery, and writers don't always produce the
best stuff from the first draft they made. So revision is a chance to look at the paper once again and
to analyze critically what a writer has written. Once a writer has completed the writing portion of an
essay, it is often considered to be done. However, no one, even a professional writer, writes a
perfect draft on the first attempt; in fact, it is often this revision stage of writing where a good
writer separates himself from other, less experienced writers. A good writer understands the
importance of revision and spends as much time as possible during this stage to craft the essay into
the ideal state. Moreover, what exactly revision is? Revision refers to the changes that occur in an
essay once

5. Personal Narrative: My Revision
Do you think that revision is necessary to identify problems within the paper that you have written?
When I first re–read my submission from January I was disappointed with the quality that the
paper held. At the beginning of the semester I felt as if my work was not perfect but slightly
above average. After completing this semester and revising my paper from the beginning of the
semester I have realized that above average was not a true representation of my work. It would not
come close to being considered my most quality work, in fact the quality just barely passes for
average. My rhetorical choices shifted but didn't completely change while completing my revision. I
expected English 101 to consist of assignments where we argued our opinion...show more content...
I learned to take each paragraph separately and break it down step by step instead of jumping into
to the assignment at once. The amount that I have learned throughout this course was surprisingly a
lot more information than I expected to learn. I expected to do complete similar work that I did in
high school, but this course really expanded my knowledge on writing. I could gather a better
understanding for transitions and the proper way to use them. Reading academic articles will now
come much easier to me because I understand the language and structure of these articles. Sentence
level and organization would be the two biggest things I struggle with when it comes to writing. The
skill that is most valuable to me would be starting with body paragraphs and taking them piece by
piece, then moving on to write the introduction and thesis statement. This will be very helpful with
future writing assignments because it will help me maintain organization and not get

6. Rection In Writing : A Reflection On Improvement
A Reflection on Improvement Before entering into this class, I thought that I had an adequate
skill in writing essays. However, as I started writing papers for this class I began to notice that my
ability to write an essay needed a great deal of improvement. At the beginning of the class I was not
even able to distinguish the difference between editing and revising, however, I soon learned the
difference. Throughout my learning experience this semester I have been able to gain valuable
knowledge on how to revise my essays and this newfound knowledge helped me learn how to use
revision techniques to improve my essays. The rough draft of the first essay that I wrote for this class
was graded and returned to me with many errors marked. This rough draft was covering the topic
of the conflicts of archaeology, and when I look back at my process of writing it I can see how the
many errors that were located in the essay came to be. I viewed my mistakes but I did not believe
that they needed as much fixing as they did. I only changed the biggest error that I had made in my
rough draft for my final draft. As shown in my rough draft the main change that I made was that I
changed one paragraph that talked about archaeology in Scandinavia to fit in with my other
paragraphs which talked about archaeology in America ("The Conflicts of Archaeology"). By
making this change my grade improved, but I still had mistakes in my final draft that should not
have been there.
In the first essay that

7. Describe The Revising Process
Revising is ensuring your essay is organized and reflects your thesis, while editing is done to ensure
your words and message are clear. To revise an essay, the writer should make sure each paragraph
relates to the thesis, that the essay is structured well with complete sentences and paragraphs, and
that the essay includes an introduction and conclusion. One way to help revise your essay is to,
"...consider putting yourself in the shoes of your readers when you revise and trying to determine
whether what you have written will be clear and understandable to your audience" (Connell, 2013, p.
9.2). This helps ensure your thoughts are well organized and flow well. Revising checks the writer's
accuracy for focus, structure, organization, completion,

8. Revision Narrative
Revision Narrative
One of the biggest change I made was changing the narrator of the story. I decided to change it to
a third person narrator to give myself more flexibility in terms of description because I felt like
the first person narrator limited what I was able to describe. However, writing in the third person
also proved to be challenging. The different POV changed the tone and voice of the story. Plus I
couldn't decide on which girl was the main protagonist of the story. As I delved into both girls' mind
through third person narrative they both became more interesting, and it was harder for me to decide
on one main character. Now the subject of the story keep shifting between both girls.
Although I liked the mystery and anticipation

9. Donald Murray The Revising Process Of Writing
According to Donald M. Murray, revising a work of writing is an essential procedure a writer goes
through. As many other professional writers have mentioned, "Writing is rewriting," they see each
draft as an opportunity to rebuild their work since there's never a feeling of satisfaction. In his essay,
Murray incorporates the experiences of authors Peter F. Drucker, Ray Bradbury, John Ciardi, Eleanor
Estes, and others to make an argument on how important the revising and editing process are when
writing for an audience. Murray divides his essay into three main sections which are becoming the
enemy of our first draft, using the seven elements of writing such as the audience and information,
and lastly finding the potential and alternatives of

10. Rough Draft Reflection
Making revision to my rough draft was difficult but a rewarding task. At times I felt like I needed
a break from my paper and I did take many breaks. Taking breaks is understandable however when
an individual take breaks try to keep in mind the timeframe in which you need in order to complete
the final research paper. This experience has taught me that planning is a must and sticking to the
planning schedule is necessary in order to produce a grammar, well structured and organized paper.
When trying to revise this research paper I became overly focused on the editorial details. When
doing so I could have included more research information which would make my research paper to
have a strong reinforcement references to my topic and thesis

11. Revision Of The Writing Process
A Study on Revision In The Writing Process
Typically, when most people think about the writing process they think of terms such as a 'thesis
statement,' developing an outline, body paragraphs, conclusion; it's imperative to view writing this
way. We have only been taught THIS way of writing almost directly after we learned how to spell
words–you decide what to write about, usually specified in the thesis statement, then you write a
series of paragraphs entailing how you came to this conclusion. Finally, you conclude your paper by
restating exactly what it was you spent an entire essay writing about. And most people will go their
entire lives believing that is the formula for an effective, well thought–out work of literature. But
how often do we go back and read through our writing and completely resent how amateur and
forced it sounds? This is usually a direct result of a lack of revision within a work. Defined by the
Merriam–Webster dictionary as "a change or a set of changes that corrects or improves something"
and "a new version of something that has been corrected or changed," Revision is not a common
word we think of when writing–this raises a serious question: how should you revise? In response to
this to this, research was conducted to find a general view as to the significance of revision within
various individual's writing processes. These results, along with research from several academic
articles provide a clear description as to where revision could be

12. Re-Find Your Writing Voice
Hello, everyone!
As you can see, today I want to talk about 'Re–find your writing voice'. You might feel confused, but
don't worry. First, I want to share my personal experience with you. I was also a BP student, like
many of you. When I was taking the BP course, I read many my classmates' essays. And these
essays have many things in common. For example, five–paragraph theme (one introductory
paragraph, three body paragraphs with support and development, and one concluding paragraph),
similar views and a similar conclusion. Because of the similarities, many essays seem like written
by the same person. At that time, I firmly believed the only way to get a high mark is following a
strict form.
Now, let's think again. Do you more or less have...show more content...
You might wonder how this is possible. I still could talk. However, "voice' has two different
meanings. In physical, the voice means the sound that human beings make. Like talking, singing and
laughing. In writing, the voice is more complicated to understand. When you show your thinking
through your writing, voice means your ideas. Also, it's not just copying other's ideas. As Grant
(2016) says, writing voice is people's special personality, and it can reflect who the person is (p.117).
When I was taking the writing course, I realized that I always write like robots. And
teacher–students journals helped me a lot. For example, it helped me build confidence and generate
ideas. And I start to believe I have the ability to remain a strong voice in any language. That's why I
said 'Re–find'. This word means find again. When we were writing in our native language, we were
passionate and thoughtful writers. However, when we were writing in English, we felt we lose
control. So, we need to re–find our writing voice in English and let our culture contributes to our
writing.
If you also want to express your inner thoughts, I have a good way to help you re–find your writing

13. College Essay On Revision
What I've always wanted is to be a good writer and in order to do this I know I need to learn how to
grasp revision. Editing, proofreading, revising, fixing grammatical errors, and re–reading, are
important in revising. Writing used to be a chore to me until I found my own style and started
writing creatively while keeping my interests in mind. After writing and finding out a certain style
doesn't work, it leads me to try something different. I used to think of revision as re–writing and
changing text and documents, until I learned what revision truly is and the importance of this
process. Alice S. Horning, in Revision Revisited (2002), presents "weaving as a metaphor for the
revision process writers follow" (p. 1). "To create the tapestry...show more content...
Heavy grammar and style comments on a student's early draft show that surface is the most
important part. Some problems students find include word repetition, and when students don't face
the problems, they may replace the offending words with synonyms (Haar & Horning, 2006). When
teachers reviewed my early drafts on past papers especially in writing classes, I found the process
overwhelming. In previous writing classes I have used word repetition and synonyms in my papers.
Revision means correcting repetition, better word usage, and to recognize synonyms aren't always
good word replacements with draft revisions. Using synonyms means adding a replacement word
which essentially means the same, except the word may sound or look better. Less repetition and
synonym usage is better when correcting drafts, because there are other alternatives. Also in
Revision: History, Theory, and Practice, the chapter Definitions and Distinctions also talks about
revision, images, and voices. "Revision means movement: turning from self to reader; drafting up
and down, out and in; heeding interior and exterior voices. These images of movement witness to the
active, fluid thinking of revision, its creativeness, and its multiple, interconnected tasks" (Haar, 2006,
14). Revising and editing are just as important as the written words themselves and the content

Revision Paper
William Shakespeare In the 1590s, William Shakespeare was known for being a national poet. He
had a nickname, "Bard of avon" because of where he was born. He was a actor, english poet, and one
of the best writers in the world. He was known very well for his writing except for his personal life.
His personal life is not known very well but some parts were told. William had 7 siblings and he
was the third one born of the eight. William Shakespeare was born on April 23rd, 1564 in England,
and he died on April 23rd, 1616 in England on his 52nd birthday. He retired from writing plays 3
months before he died. William Shakespeare died a month later after signing his will, when he
signed his will he was healthy and perfectly fine, Weird right?!
In 1564 a bad case of the plague broke out in london and stratford when shakespeare was 3 months
old. The city of London was of the dirtiest city during this time, there was no such thing as a sewage
system, and the nasty human waste was dumped into rivers. The plague was usually spread from
animals like rats and rodents to people.
November 27th, 1582 William got married to Anne Hathaway, he was only 18 years old at the time.
She was 26 years old and she was three months pregnant. She had a daughter with shakespeare and
then many years later they had twins.
Seven years later after having kids, shakespeare "disappeared". In 1592 he was found in the city of
London. People call the years that he was gone "The lost years". The

thing I did was self–edit/ revision. I started with ten pages, and I edited it down to 8pages. With the
peer review, Nick provided me with his great opinion, and that helped me take out redundant
information which brought my page count to 6pages. In Office hours, your overview helped me
narrow down my page numbers to 4pages. After the office hours, I worked extensively to

in–text citations, moving some topics from the different paragraph at various locations and making
sure I had the correct citations and references. The one thing I got stuck on and

16. What I Learned From The Revision
Looking back As human beings we try to achieve perfection, and when we look back on previous
works we find what wasn 't right and fix it; however we might look at a project later and the cycle
repeats and repeats. In other words, revision is never over. Kind of depressing, right? But, the
sooner we accept our fate as eternal revisers, the better off we will be. What I learned from the
revision is that there is always room for improvement. For the final essay, I made global revisions
like: structuring, adding details, deleting senses, and adding sentences. I also made some local
revisions like: grammar, fixing typos, and fixing strange sentences. Revision is necessary to
make an essay better and is a chance to make brave changes that you were not willing to address
in the beginning. I am a more humble student now that I've accepted that revision is grueling,
endless, and necessary. Again, depressing, but also true. The local revisions that I made in the
essay make the essay easier to understand. I notice that I am not the best speller and made quite a
few typos, for example I changed "fine" to "find," and "mother" to "mother's". I feel the reader
might see "Connie and mommy" and be uninterested, because it will be a normal mother/ daughter
type relationship. I also decided to change the title of my essay to "Everyone hates Connie", because
I feel that it grabs the audience's attention, and doesn't sound too generic. I also added the year
"2015" in the

18. Essay On Revision Techniques
An effective use of revision techniques will help me to pass my biology examination. I use revision
charts, note taking from the text book, practicing questions, highlighter pens and also stick notes
around the room to ensure information stays on the mind. I apply these techniques base on the topic
I am studying. For instance, when I am studying the human digestive system, it requires detailed
knowledge on its associated organs and enzymes so I will use note taken from personal studies on
the system. I will post labelled diagrams on all the various digestive organs and its functions around
my study room to help me to remember the knowledge I have acquired through my comprehensive
reading.

I will practice related questions from textbooks and online and also encourage questions from my
friends in a group discussion to underpin what I have learnt.
FLASH CARDS
There are three main reasons why flashcards are an effective learning style. Using flashcards
engages active recall. When I look at one side of a flashcard and think of the answer on the
opposite side, I will be engaging my mental faculty, an action which is called active recall. This
process will cause me to remember or attempt to remember the concept from scratch rather than
simply staring at the passage in the textbook or recognizing it on a multiple choice quiz. The active
recall will create a stronger neuron connections for the memory trace and because flashcards can
easily facilitate repetition, it's the best way to create multiple memory–enhancing recall events.(
brainscape.com accessed on 31 Dec.2013). The second reason is that, flashcards will enable me to
use my metacognitive faculty. When I expose the answer side of a flashcard to evaluate correctness,
I will be asking myself "How did my answer compare to this correct answer?" and "How well did I
know (or not know) it?" This procedure of self–reflection is called metacognition. Research shows
that applying metacognition tends to establish memories deeper into a person's knowledge.

19. Revision Is An Effective Way For Students
Revision is to re–read, re–think, and re–seeing. As Nancy Sommers stated,"revision is simply the
further growth of what is already there."() As simply as what she state, it would be an agreement
from me. Revision is an effective way for students; to have the opportunity to look back at their own
work and make correction and improvement. Throughout the revision of both essays, my writing
mainly focusing having improvement on avoiding repetition, correcting small errors, and adding
analysis. First, corrections that is made for my revision is to avoid repetition. Agreeing to Anne
Lamott, "not one ... writes elegant first drafts."() To make improvement for "The Memorable
Hamlet," is to re–think and re–see the sentences that was created and to revise it to the meet the rule
of writing a proper essay, no "I." For example, the second sentence on the second paragraph my
sentence was "Throughout the process of writing a paper for Hamlet, I learn one different way of
thinking while writing and ways of how to prepare for an essay, outlining." To avoid the repetition,
correction that was made for the sentence was, "Throughout the process of writing a paper for
Hamlet, there are different ways of thinking while writing and ways of how to prepare for an essay,
outlining." The improvement is made by changing the words around, instead of "I learn one different
way of thinking...," by changing the words around and avoiding repetition, "there are different ways
of thinking..." would meet the

20. Revision: Most Great Writer
Revision is the key for most great writers. Before submitting an official paper, revision should be
the final step because revising and editing your paper can help you find small mistakes that you
didn't pick up on before. Revision is different from proofreading, proofreading focuses more on
spelling and grammar errors, revising focuses on reconsidering your thoughts in a better manner. In
the long and tedious process of revision, you should look at the main thesis and how well your
thoughts are organized in the paper. You may even stumble upon a paragraph that may not have
anything to do with the paper and delete it. Even when Ernest Hemingway, a great american writer
was once interviewed he was asked how much rewriting he does and he responded that he once
wrote the last page of his book Farewell Arms thirty–nine times before he was satisfied with it. Once
you revise your thesis, your thoughts in the rest of the paper should address your thesis in order to
keep organization. Revision is very important in submitting paper because it can change the purpose
of the paper just by fixing the organization and thoughts of the paper so it can be clear understanding

I had struggled a lot on clarification that led you to put several comments about it. I want to know
how to be clear for any reader without being repetitive. I feel that I see myself leaning towards
being vague because I feel that if I explained my argument more, it would just lead to
repetitiveness. Another question I have in regarding to revision is that I don't know how to
minimize my quote because I feel as if what all of the quote is saying is very important for my
argument. How can I minimize it so that the quote does not become a block quote? I believe that
