1. Persuasive Short Stories
As we are nearing our destination our bus driver yells out "I am going to stop at this gas station
and fill up." When our bus driver came back onto the bus he exclaimed "The gas station is out of
gasoline so we will stay here overnight." Then, everyone in the bus started grunting and moaning.
"But guys we can make this fun if we tell stories to pass the time, Here, I will start." I said. And we
began telling each other our stories. "Can we please adopt this one, Mom? Pretty please, he is so
cute! With his bright green eyes and his pink little nose," said Jacob, a thirteen year old boy with
red hair. "After this we will be pretty much bankrupt," said Jacob's mom, with her deep blue eyes
staring into Jacob's "Please just this one thats all," said Jacob "Ok but promise me that you will take
responsibility of him by taking care of him," said Jacob's mom. And they strutted to the individual
behind the counter. When they got back home with their new puppy they decided to name him Spot
due to a cinnamon–colored spot on his back. The next morning, when Jacob woke up he noticed
that Spot's nose is not the same shade of pink. In fact, it is quite pale. "Mom we need to take spot
to the vet now!" screamed Jacob wistfully. "Ok, I will get Spot while you get in the car," replied
Mom. When they got to their destination, Jacob sprinted out of the car and went to the vet's office
and almost immediately the vet said "Spot is going to need surgery, do you have insurance?" "No,

2. Persuasive Writing Can Persuade Audience
Finally, showing consideration for the readers can persuade them effectively. Knowing the audience
when writing can prevent any offense that audience might feel, which can narrow the distance of the
author and the readers. This is explained further by the author of the "persuasive writing" that
understanding the audience is vital because it is important not to offend them, as it will definitely
turn them off to any persuasion. Furthermore, showing consideration for the audience by
corresponding to their needs can convince them as well. The author from Colorado State University
suggests that writers can persuade the audience by matching the writing style with the needs of the
audience. For example, he states "an audience looking for logic will

3. Presidents' Power to Persuade Essay
Presidents' Power to Persuade The president of the United States of America is seen around the
world to be the most powerful man on Earth. However, many believe that his only real power is
the power to persuade. The checks and balances of congress and the Supreme Court over the
president are great, and without their support he has relatively little power. A president cannot get
any legislation passed if he does not have the support of the senate and or the house of
representatives. If a president wanted the US to sign a new treaty, the senate would have to ratify it
with a 2/3 majority. If a president wanted new legislation, he must submit it to congress and persuade
both houses to vote for it. The...show more content...
The president also has the power to appoint judges at district, appeal and Supreme Court levels.
This is argued as an important power, but it has its limits. After the nomination to the supreme
court which is the most superior of all courts, has been made, then the senate begins it's
confirmation process. If the senate does not reach a simple majority, as seen with Bork for
example in 1987. With this in mind, the president's power comes down to one thing: persuasion.
This may be done in a variety of ways. The most sucessful way is to telephone individual
congressman and try and pursuade them that way. President Raegan was extremely good at this.
Another way is helping with legislation, i.e passing one piece of legislation and not vetoing it if
congress passes his legislation. A simple trade. However, in actual fact the president has much
more than the power to persuade. He has many options in a lot of areas, though one of them is
persuasion, and is the main power under the circumstances of late Clinton for example, the others
play a major part if a president has control of the senate and or the house of representatives. The
most important power a president has is the power to appoint Supreme Court judges. This gives a
president the chance to have their image in place for a long period of time, after they are

4. History of Persuasion Essay
First to start off everything in life has a history of some sort and that's the same for persuasive
writing which is a form that's used so many times by so many people. I have used this style of
writing on many occasions myself when I wanted to get my point across and show others that my
way of thinking was a better idea or thought process than someone else. It's very important to
understand what being persuasive really is. Persuasion in itself including writing. It's a form of
expression getting someone or reasoning with them your way of thinking on an issue or argument.

used his gift of writing and was able to reach others in his ways of writing. I think this would
change his communication and behavior because after a certain point in his writing career he
was able to feel very comfortable in his work and was able to maybe say something's that maybe
some would not agree with or like but he took that risk and that's important if you are a writer

someone of ancient times like Antiphon's writing was. Why because times were very different
from how things are now like issues of that time things are just dramatically different. One major
thing that I loved of ancient time writers were I feel they had a better chance of saying things an

5. The Importance Of Writing To Persuade People
When you read an article, book or website the authors usually try to get a message out to the
readers. The message could be to inform people on a certain situation, inspire someone to do
something that is better for their life, or they can persuade individuals to impact society. To
persuade an individual into something is to change their personal way of thinking, and it uses
both to inform and inspire. To impact someone is to change something enough to have an effect,
which can be positive or negative. Writers use language to persuade individuals to use their ideas
and teachings in their own life. By using writing to persuade people into thinking a certain way,
you can take their ideas and put them into your own way. In the article, "Asleep at the switch?
"Force Awaken" heroine missing from toy line" by Associated Press, explores the idea that
advertisers should advertise all characters in movies even if it is a female character. This article

persuades readers to change their point of view of how all races should not judge each others by
the way they look, but by their personality. The article gives examples of people criticizing the
town on their believes and practices. The writer tries to persuade the reader by stating, "Yet Keiser
doesn't consider himself white or black, and instead calls himself by the old term 'colored.'" By
informing the reader that people in Longtown are confident with their race and skin tone, the reader
might change their point of view if they thought differently

7. Persuasive Essay On The Media
My previous experience with this topic of media always trying to persuade you, well I do have
never really thought about it like that. I have read the book, The Hunger Games, and seen the
movie. I have never put any thought in how the media persuades them and controls their society.
For me, the book and movie were very entertaining. Action packed and attention grabbing, you
never wanted to look away or put the book down because you never knew what was going to
happen next. For the next 2 hours, or however long it takes you to finish the book, you put
yourself in the shoes of someone else's life. The main point of this article is how the media is
always trying to persuade you. Even when you think you are just being informed, whoever is
informing you has an opinion of that topic. That person's opinion of the subject has to do with
feelings and "feelings are often times much more powerful than fact" (Page 2). Knowing that
feelings are more powerful than fact, the media tries to inject fear. The reason behind injecting
fear is to persuade you to think what they think. We might leave in a country full of freedom's, but
"we still manage to be molded by a medium that we have no control over" (Page 3). We learn about
what is going on in the world by what we see in the mass media. We are not over in Iran, we only
know what is being told to us. We could have a different view from what the media tells us, if we
saw it in person and knew what they were going through. The media just gives us enough
information to be persuaded to what they want us to think. I think the point is worth making, have
people start thinking more in depth about what they are being told. Have them thinking about what
are they leaving out and why. My reaction to this article is mind–blowing. I think she did a great job
proving her point. Every time she made another point, it got me thinking and seeing what she was
saying. When she talked about how "it is just a movie... but it is also manipulation" really struck me
and made me think. While watching movies, sometimes we laugh or sometimes we cry, but have
you ever really thought about it. The producer plays sad music to arouse a sad feeling, the main point
of that is to show that they can manipulate

In the most widely quoted and discussed model of presidential power, Richard Neustadt states that
the power of the president lies in the power to persuade. According to Neustadt, the key to
presidential success and influence is persuasion. Although some may view the president as a
powerful authority figure, the checks and balances established by the founders makes the president's
skills of persuasion crucial. The president's accumulation of personal power can make up for his
lack of institutional powers. The president must act as the "lubricant" for the other sectors of
government in order to preserve order and accomplish business. Neustadt emphasizes the president's
ability to forge strong personal relationships and his or her...show more content...

set the stage for the presidents who came after him in using the power of persuasion in the
modern presidency. (Hargrove 98) Another President who validates the ideals of Neustadt was
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt's fifth cousin (Presidents). Franklin Delano
Roosevelt made the presidency a symbol of leadership and purpose in a time of depression and
war. He established the role of the president to be chief legislator and has been labeled the
"manipulative leader." His charm was remarkable. He relied on his persuasion skills as a political
tool. It was written that "In his geniality was a kind of frictionless command." His success during
the depression and New Deal programs, and the leadership he displayed during World War II is
partially due to his presidential personality of unity. President Roosevelt was described as an artist
of interpersonal relations; he knew how to combine diverse advice in unified solutions and strike
chords of support through affirmation. He truly strived to gain the trust of the

The reason I suggest this is that, while credibility has some potential to be manipulative, it typically
requires the user to actually have proven themselves worthy of the listener's time. The shear amount

deter the very idea of utilizing this method from being an option. As a communicator making use of

12. The Power Of Persuasion And Influence
'Critically evaluate how persuasion and influence can be used in your field of vocational interest.
This can relate to how they are used within your field or in order to gain a place in your field. '
The power of persuasion can be very important and highly useful in teaching. Cialdini (2007) argues
that there are 6 basic principles to persuasion and influencing people. These are reciprocity,
commitment, social proof, authority, scarcity and liking. These principles are used in the service
industry such as in businesses and marketing (Cialdini & Goldstein, 2002). The Yale approach
claims that effective persuasion depends on three factors, who the persuader is, the type of
communication used, and who is being persuaded (Riley, Hovland, Janis...show more content...
Reciprocity for example can be exploited for profit as it can promote unequal exchange between
partners (Selfgrowth.com, 2015). This can be seen in Regan's (1971) study as Regan's assistant
only gave participants a bottle of coca cola however they reciprocated by giving him a gift worth
more than the gift given. This could in theory be used in a classroom by a teacher to persuade a
student to do something in which they do not want to do and are not comfortable in doing, because
they feel they are in debt to the teacher. Studies have also shown that in the principle of
reciprocation even when the person giving the gift does not ask to be reciprocated the recipient feels
stressed and indebted to the person causing them anxiety (Larson, 1973).
In conclusion influence and persuasion in a teaching setting can be an extremely powerful tool, as
it can help people achieve a goal through the principle of commitment and consistency, and increase
compliance of a student through the principle of reciprocation. However these principles can also
be used to mislead and deceive people and even cause stress through feeling indebted to a

died so that people will not be judge by the color of their skin. Not all businesses are a success and
it does take a lot to run a business, but changing management does not mean the end of that business.
Having a persuasive conversation with an open–minded person can be very interesting. The type of
persuasion I would use would be positive optimism. I wanted to ask my neighbor to help plan an

both have children around the age group of a few children in the neighborhood. We are able to
relate how these children need some things to do and this would be a chance for everyone to get to
know each other. We can teach them to get alone with others; how to help others when needed and
how to keep the neighborhood a great place. We both have experience working with youth and can
make a difference in their lives.

There are different type of thinking people respond to. Some have have open–mind and others do

The Art of Persuasion Used since the times of the ancient Greeks, the art of persuasion has become
an integral part of our everyday language. From its inception, it was used to elect a government to

However, using too much of logos can be a drag as too much facts and statistics makes a speech
mundane. This is why ethos is equally used in a persuasive speech. Ethos uses credibility to
persuade the audience. The speaker credits the audience by complimenting them in various ways. In
J.F.K's Berlin speech, his starting sentence clearly shows Ethos, "I am proud to come to this city as
the guest of your distinguished Mayor, who has symbolized thoroughout the world the fighting spirit
of West Berlin. And I am proud to visit the Federal Republic with your distinguished
Chancellor…" In the starting speech, J.F.K uses personal pronouns to include the audiences in
his speech. Kennedy also repeats the word "distinguished", which is an evident compliment to the
country. J.F.K also addresses positions of authority like Berlin's Mayor and Chancellor to make it
seem respectable. Ethos is very useful when it comes to persuasion, as one tends to take pride in
praises which others say to them. Likewise, pathos is another technique used to persuade the
audience emotionally. Although emotional appeals are not popular in some formal arguments, it still
remains the most powerful persuasive factor, as ethos and logos sometimes do

The thing that makes a person a true leader is his or her power to persuade people to do their
bidding. The best leader is the natural leader who does not have to be an authority figure in order
to get people to do his bidding. This person is one that has mastered the art of persuasion and
knows how to apply it to everyday life. Now before we continues let me clean up the term "Power
of Persuasion" for you. You don't have to be a con artist to persuade people. Nor do you have to
be a fast talker or a manipulator. Unfortunately many people who have mastered the art of
persuasion have internalized these traits also. We normally see some degree of each of these traits
in a persuasive person, but this is not what I advocate here. As a leader I learned that the best way
to get people to do what you want is to get them to buy into your program. You hear this term used by

19. Use of Doubt To Persuade Essay
Persuasion goes on around us everyday, all the time, on television, on advertisements, even in
conversations with friends. Perhaps because of this, much has been written on how to persuade more
effectively. Most of this literature is built upon the notion that to persuade is to urge successfully and
completely. Going along these lines, certainty and confidence are logical complements to effective
persuasion, since we cannot hope to convince others when we are ourselves in doubt. Doubt,
therefore, is felt to be at the other end of the spectrum and antithetical to persuasion. But the art of
persuasion is a human art, and so it is a living art, which cannot be satisfactorily summed up between
the covers of self–improvement guides. In reality,...show more content...
The judicious employment of doubt can therefore round everyone up at the same start line, and focus
their attention on the same finishing point. In this way, the paradox of using doubt in persuasion is
resolved. Naturally, any solution as tidy as this one requires some accounting for.
This approach is derived from a similarly paradoxical situation, that of Singapore's evolution as a
nation. Singapore's history from the formation of the Federation of Malaysia through merger
with Malaya, to independence in 1965, up till the present day, is a tale of triumph over
tribulations. The two years as part of Malaysia were especially traumatic, complete with heated
political campaigns and two racial riots. Yet these were not as distressful as the separation of
Singapore from Malaysia in 1965, which in effect compelled Singapore to eke out a living on its
own. Just as doubt is supposedly an impediment to successful persuasion, so Singapore's
vulnerabilities and limitations as a small state were thought to stand in the way of its progress. Yet
these anticipated dangers served as a rallying point around which the leaders of the country linked
arms with the people. This sense of vulnerability not only guided the leadership in policy–making, it
impressed upon the people that they had a point to prove to detractors who had doubted the viability
of the nation. Judging by the role which uncertainty

Imagine being stuck in a house, that felt more like a prison. Working for a dangerous man, where

Evaluating this style made me realize that his unique writing style made Reacher seem even more
like a real person. Right off the bat, I observed short, quick sentences showing Jack's thoughts.
Since he used to be in the military, he absorbs every little detail around him, predicting all of the
possible outcomes. An example can be shown in this quote: "Duke went back to his car. It
bounced off the shoulder and straightened up. I followed him through the two miles. We killed our
lights a hundred yards short of the driveway and made the turn. Took it slow. There was some
moonlight." His fast and almost incomplete thoughts make him seem ready to react at any moment.
While making Reacher's character consistent, Lee Child also demonstrates thorough knowledge
about military technology topics. At one point in the book, Reacher uses an "old school" code to
communicate a secret message to someone. Also, with each weapon that comes up in the book,
Jack Reacher seems to have a deep understanding of all of them. This adds to making him seem
even more like a real character because of his military background, so he would obviously have to
know a lot about guns and other
