THE
HEALING
HOUSE
Matt 21:12-17
Why was
Jesus
angry?
1. He is the
    MESSIAH
• This story was also recorded in two
    Gospels.
• This story is different from the first in
    John 2:13-22.
• He was ending His ministry with the
    similar story.
• It is consistent with who He is.
2. He has
    AUTHORITY
• Based on righteousness and holines—
    ‖My house‖
• He did not tolerate wrongdoing in His
temple, but He did not hurt anyone.
• His demonstration was not tantrum
    nor violence.
• He did not sulk.
3. He knows the
    PURPOSE for the
    temple
• The structure of the temple
  • Downgraded glory
  • Less holy place?
• The activities in the template
  • No sacrifices
  • Blemished sacrifices
3. He knows the
    PURPOSE for the
• The temple became a source of
    temple venture, even priests were
   PROFITABLE
   involved, instead of an HONORABLE
   venue.
The Purpose of the House/Temple:
           THE HEALING
• HEALING – not STEALING
• HELPING – not OVERPRICING
• YIELDING – not TAKING
      ADVANTAGE (oppression)
• WORSHIPPING –not PLAYING
• WELCOMING - not TURNING AWAY
CONCLUSION
• God has chosen His church to be the
main arm of proclamation of His truth.

    1. God does not tolerate evil in His
    house.
    2. We should promote HEALING in His
    House.
    3. We celebrate in His house based on
    God’s truth.
REFLECTION
1) What needs to be cleansed in God’s
   temple? Is there stealing? Taking
   advantage? Playing? Turning away of
   people?
2) Have you experienced ―healing‖ in this
temple? Of hurts? Of physical illness? Of
   relationship?
3) What practical things can you do to give
more honor to God in His temple?
