4.How to solve
the problem
Gender Inequality
 Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perception of
individuals based on their gender.
 The girls are the worst victim of gender discrimination.
 The girls are discriminated right from before their birth.
 In 2011, Bangladesh was ranked 146 out of 187 countries on the
Human Development Index and 112 out 146 countries surveyed on
the Gender Inequality Index.
Elements of Gender Inequality
 Gender Inequality In Health
 Gender Inequality In Education
 Gender Inequality In Employment and Unemployment
 Participation and Representation In Politics
 Discrimination and Violence Against Women etc.
Causes Of Gender inequality in
Bangladesh
 Structural and Social Institutions
 Lack of Explicit policy Initiatives
 Preoccupied Mindset
 Early Marriage
 Low parental education
 Political instability
Bangladesh has achieved some progress in health sector and has been
successful in rising the average life expectation of its population
.However the situation of female health is still poor.Health care for
women is still restricted to their reproductive health and that is why
their general health quite neglected.
Gender Inequality In Education
The percent of the literate children also various according to the gender.
The literacy of the male children was 49.5% and for female it was 40.1% .
In 2000 which has been increased to 65.77% for male and 60.68% for female
in 2014.
Percentage of the enrolled student at university level (public
university) of male and female
Employ Inequality by Gender
 In 1993-94, employed male population was 57.5 %
and it was 10.6% for female at the national level.
The percentage of employed population for both male and female
has decreased to 44.2% and 9.7 respectively in 1999-2000.
 This might be due to the beginning of the global recession at that
time period Again, the percentage of employed male and female
has increased to to 68.3% and 22.9% in 2007 from 67.5% and 15.2%
in 2004 respectively at the national level.
Unemployment Inequality by
Gender : The number of population who are unemployed
are still increasing
Unemployed population has increased
from 1.3 million in 1995-96 to
2.7 million in 2009 with an average of 0.13 million per year.
 In case of male, it has increased with
an annual average of 0.06
million and for female it was 0.05 million
at the same time period
(1995-96 to 2009). Under these circumstances,
providing employment
status for the country’s population remains
a big challenge for the government
Discrimination and Violence Against
Women
 When married, girl become property of husbands family. Domestic
violence and discrimination are difficult to measure.
 Violence in Bangladesh ranges from:
 acid throwing,
 physical and psychological torture,
 sexual harassment,
 dowry related violence,
 trafficking
 coerced suicide and
 murder.
How to solve the problem
Ball and Doll
How To Solve The Problem:
We have to ensure “Education for All”
Early marriage and torture on the girls should be stopped. We have to
create social awareness about gender inequality.
We also should control population problem.
And the main thing is we have to change our mind.
