States by examining sex-ed films and other sex ed course materials (i.e. lectures, brochures,
etc.).Write about two cultural messages that were communicated by the sexual education
materials (i.e. films, lectures, brochures, etc.) portrayed in the film. For example, what
cultural messages were communicated by the WWII sex-ed films for soldiers? What cultural
messages became popular in schools as a result of the AIDS crisis? You can focus on these or
other cultural messages you observed in the film.How did this film relate to our class
discussion about sexuality, gender, and sex? What is your opinion of the film and
why?Classmate Marilu Guadarrama: Due to many diseases being transmitted, soldiers were
taught how to maintain clean hygiene and protection against these viruses, however, many
were still getting infected through intercourse and blamed women for the cause of
spreading diseases. How they were told that women were the problem portrayed the lack of
education towards these men. Afterward, you can see how society began to educate
children about how their bodies work and what roles men and women had to play. The
following cultural message was around the mid-1900s when people discovered
homosexuality which was classified as a mental disorder. They introduced films about the
dangers of men and women getting kidnapped (hitchhiking) and raped, but now that
society felt more open toward their sexuality, there were gay and women’s rights
movements. In schools, what they realized was the rise of AIDs diseases and the solution
they had was forcing young people not to have sex, by doing so, their message for people
who take the “Abstinence Program” will “wait to have penal-vaginal intercourse longer”,
Many thought this program was not helpful at all since it is just preventing from kids in
learning which is why a new program was introduced, the O.W.L. Program, a better sex
education program.In our class discussion, this movie can relate to how people were taught
about sex, what kind of encounters or dangers they had to face, and their lack of education.
The film felt very informative and shocking the way how people think back in the days,
especially on how open these films showed and the message they leave behind. If I recall,
sex education was only taught to me like one time about what changes you will see and how
periods work, but that was around high school where girls and boys were put in separate

rooms. So the way I learned was through my own research and friends who had
experienced sexual interaction.
