Jimmy Hoffa was a prominent labor union leader who mysteriously disappeared in 1975. He rose to power in the 1930s as a union organizer against large grocery companies. Hoffa later led the powerful International Brotherhood of Teamsters union from 1957 until he was convicted of jury tampering and fraud in 1964. Upon his release from prison in 1971, Hoffa planned to regain control of the union but disappeared before doing so. Decades later, the disappearance remains unsolved though suspects included members of organized crime with whom Hoffa had past dealings.
