2. STATE OF PLAY
โข AS WE ARE HERE TODAY, THE
RECORD IS HELD BY TOP 1 OIL ACK
ATTACK! ROCKY REACHED
376.363MPH FOR THE MILE IN
SEPTEMBER, 2010. THE CHASE IS ON
FOR 400MPH!
3. THE OUTRIGHT
MOTORCYCLE RECORD
EXPLAINED.
โข In order to break the record you must beat
the speed over a measured mile, in both
directions, within a two-hour period. The
record is the average of the two speeds, and
is timed to 1/1000mph.
4. THE CURRENT CONTENDERS.
โข The following slides show the three
streamliners which have exceeded the
record speed since 2006, whether officially
or not.
5. DENIS MANNING AND
CHRIS CARR.
โข Denis broke the record for the first time in
1970, and has since established his place in
history by building a series of the fastest
motorcycles in the world, culminating in
BUB 7. This streamliner has twice broken
the record, in the capable hands of Chris
Carr, reaching a peak speed of over
372mph. BUB 7 features a 3,000cc V4
engine with a small turbocharger.
7. SAM WHEELER.
โข Sam is one of the unsung heroes at
Bonneville. He has exceeded the record at
least four times, but has never been able to
back it up officially. His peak speed is over
355mph. Sam uses a single, turbocharged
engine, with a small chassis.
9. MIKE AKATIFF AND ROCKY
ROBINSON.
โข Mike built Ack Attack, raced first at Bonneville in
2004, and within three years broke the Harley
record, which had stood for 16 years, with his
rider, Rocky Robinson. The Top 1 Oil Ack Attack
streamliner runs two Suzuki engines with a huge
turbocharger. Ack has broken the record three
times, and as well as being the current holder, set a
fastest mile of 286+mph, with an exit speed of
394mph!
12. The Angelic Bulldog Streamliner.
Specifications.
โข 23 feet long
โข 23 inches wide!
โข 3 feet tall
โข 900kgs
โข 700+bhp
โข 0-408mph in 95 seconds
13. Safety considerations.
โข The streamliner will have the following:
โข Roll cage made of T45 tubing, 3.2mm thick
โข Bodywork made of carbon/kevlar mix
โข Two six-pot callipers and 10mm thick discs,
watercooled
โข 2 chutes for high speed
โข Watercooled chains running in a neoprene
tunnel, either side of the rear wheel
14. My safety!
โข A nine-point harness
โข A 6-layer firesuit
โข A Nomex-lined helmet
โข Fireproof gloves and boots
โข A fire system in both the engine and cockpit
compartments
โข A tilt mechanism to deploy both chutes if the
streamliner goes over 40 degrees from vertical
16. VERNEUK PAN, SOUTH
AFRICA.
โข In May 2003, my brother and I flew over to Cape
Town, and drove the 500 miles up to the Northern
Cape to test a streamliner training bike. I tested on
three lake beds, including the Hakskeen Pan,
where Bloodhound SSC are going in 2013, but the
best for me was the Vernuek Pan, where Malcolm
Campbell set a five-mile record of 218mph in
1929, which still stands. As you will see in one of
the slides, the lakebed is 37 miles across, and has a
height difference of six inches! It is remote, being
45 miles from the nearest tarmac.

19. THE ACABION.
โข Dr Peter Maskus made his vision of future
transport, in which a vehicle can carry two
people and some luggage in speed and
comfort. The result is an astonishing
machine, which is way ahead of itโs time
for the road. I tested this vehicle near
Berlin, in Germany.
22. ANGELIC BULLDOG
DEVELOPMENTS.
โข The following slides show some details of
the Angelic Bulldog streamliner.
โข The name โAngelic Bulldogโ comes from
my name being Gabriel, and the Bulldog is
British and does not let go!
31. Gearing is as follows:
โข 1st - 3.333:1 - 117.84mph
โข 2nd - 2.176:1 - 180.49mph
โข 3rd - 1.556:1 - 252.41mph
โข 4th - 1.238:1 - 317.25mph
โข 5th - 1.052:1 - 373.34mph
โข 6th - 0.958:1 - 409.97mph
โข It can be geared higher if needed.
โข AT 400MPH I WILL BE COVERING 2
FOOTBALL PITCHES EVERY SECOND!
32. AUSTWICK ENTERPRISES
โข Everybody can help this project in some
way, and Austwick Enterprises are
providing me with the resources to spend
more time organising everything that needs
to be done.
