The Proclamation of the Word
A READING FROM THE BOOK OF ACTS 16: 9–15
Read by Dr John Harris
During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of
Macedonia pleading with him and saying, “Come over to
Macedonia and help us.” When he had seen the vision, we
immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced
that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them. We
set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the
following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a
leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony.
We remained in this city for some days. On the sabbath day we
went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was
a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who
had gathered there. A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper
of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira
and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen
eagerly to what was said by Paul. When she and her household
were baptized, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to
be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home.” And she
prevailed upon us.
The word of the Lord: Thanks be to God.
PSALM 67 (Tone III.4)
May God be merciful to us and bless us, *
show us the light of his countenance and come to us.
Let your ways be known u-pon earth, *
your saving health among all na-tions.
Let the peoples praise you O God; *
let all the peo-ples praise you.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, *
for you judge the peoples with equity and guide all the
nations u-pon earth.
Let the peoples praise you O God; *
let all the peo-ples praise you.
The earth has brought forth her in-crease; *
may God our own God give us his bles-sing.
May God give us his bles-sing, *
and may all the ends of the earth stand in awe of him.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son:
And to the Ho-ly Spi-rit.
As it was in the beginning is now and e-ver shall be:
World without end Amen.
A READING FROM THE REVELATION TO JOHN 21:10, 22—22:5
Read by Dr. Virginia Wright
And in the spirit, an angel carried me away to a great, high
mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down
out of heaven from God. I saw no temple in the city, for its
temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the
city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of
God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk
by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into
it. Its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no
night there. People will bring into it the glory and the honour of
the nations. But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who
practises abomination or falsehood, but only those who are
written in the Lamb’s book of life. Then the angel showed me
the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the
throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street
of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its
twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the
leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Nothing
accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God
and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him;
they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or
sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign
forever and ever.
The word of the Lord: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Alleluia
Choir: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
All: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Cantor: Jesus said, if anyone loves me he will keep my
word, and my Father will love him, and we shall
come to him.
All: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Gospeller: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to John 14: 23-29
All: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus answered, “Those who love me will keep my word, and
my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make
our home with them. Whoever does not love me does not keep
my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from
the Father who sent me. I have said these things to you while I
am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and
remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you;
my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming to
you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the
Father, because the Father is greater than I. And now I have
told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you
may believe.”
Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ:
All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Homily: Fr Jonathan Eayrs

Offertory Hymn
(During this hymn the gifts of bread and wine are presented and
a collection is taken up.)
Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
forgive our foolish ways;
reclothe us in our rightful mind,
in purer lives thy service find,
in deeper reverence, praise.
In simple trust like theirs who heard,
beside the Syrian sea,
the gracious calling of the Lord,
let us, like them, without a word,
rise up and follow thee.
O sabbath rest by Galilee,
O calm of hills above,
where Jesus knelt to share with thee
the silence of eternity,
interpreted by love!
Drop thy still dews of quietness,
till all our strivings cease;
take from our souls the strain and stress,
and let our ordered lives confess
the beauty of thy peace.
Breathe through the heats of our desire
thy coolness and thy balm;
let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm.
Please be seated for the anthem.
Anthem: I waited for the Lord – Felix Mendelssohn
I waited for the Lord, he inclined unto me,
he heard my complaint.
O bless’d are they that hope and trust in the Lord.
Prayer over the Gifts: God of glory, accept all we offer you
this day, and bring us to that eternal city of love and light,
where Christ is King. We ask this in his name. Amen.
Eucharistic Prayer 3 p. 198
The Lord’s Prayer (sung)
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in
heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil,
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now
and for ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread
Presider: Lord, we died with you on the cross.
All: Now we are raised to new life.
Presider: We were buried in your tomb.
All: Now we share in your resurrection.
Presider: Live in us, that we may live in you.
Communion Hymn 649 “Breathe on me, breath of God”
Presider: All your works praise you, O Lord.
All: And your faithful people bless you.
Gracious God
we thank you for feeding us
with the body and blood of your Son
Jesus Christ.
May we, who share his body,
live his risen life;
we, who drink his cup,
bring life to others;
we, whom the Spirit lights,
give light to the world.
Keep us firm in the hope you have set before
us, so that we and all your children shall be
free, and the whole earth live to praise your
name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Peter and the Dinosaurs – Special Children’s Concert today
at 6:30 PM at St. Barnabas. Doors open at 6:00.
Join us at St. Barnabas this evening for a program featuring
Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, as well as two new pieces by
Canadian composers Chris Thornborrow and Dean Burry. We’re
very excited to be sharing the stage with young performers as
well: the Musica Reflecta chamber orchestra will be joined
onstage by the Mississauga Festival Youth Choir, and young
pianist Laurelle Lassonde.
If that’s not enough to get you as excited as a kid at Christmas,
we are partnering with the visual artists of Madeleine
Collective, who are tapping into their childlike imaginations to
create an interactive visual installation coordinated with the
performance.
Special service in May
Advance notice of a special service on Sunday 26 May at 2 PM.
The choir of St. Barnabas’ has been invited to participate in the
Latvian Lutheran service that day, a special commemoration of
Pentecost that will feature music and readings. Please join us.
There will be a collection, the proceeds from which are being
generously directed to the St. Barnabas’ Organ Restoration
Fund.
Book Club’s next meeting on June 4th
The St. Barnabas Book Club will meet in the Study at 10:30
AM on Tuesday, June 4th to discuss Fugitive Pieces by Ann
Michaels. New members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Organ Swell Campaign
Launched in Easter Week, phase two of the organ restoration
has already received a gratifying response. Your continuing
contributions will enable the enhancement of the organ’s sound
and range to be carried out this summer, ready to regale us in
September. Please direct donations to “The Swell Campaign.”

  • 3. and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Proclamation of the Word A READING FROM THE BOOK OF ACTS 16: 9–15 Read by Dr John Harris During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them. We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home.” And she prevailed upon us. The word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. PSALM 67 (Tone III.4) May God be merciful to us and bless us, * show us the light of his countenance and come to us. Let your ways be known u-pon earth, *
  • 4. your saving health among all na-tions. Let the peoples praise you O God; * let all the peo-ples praise you. Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, * for you judge the peoples with equity and guide all the nations u-pon earth. Let the peoples praise you O God; * let all the peo-ples praise you. The earth has brought forth her in-crease; * may God our own God give us his bles-sing. May God give us his bles-sing, * and may all the ends of the earth stand in awe of him. Glory be to the Father and to the Son: And to the Ho-ly Spi-rit. As it was in the beginning is now and e-ver shall be: World without end Amen. A READING FROM THE REVELATION TO JOHN 21:10, 22—22:5 Read by Dr. Virginia Wright And in the spirit, an angel carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. Its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. People will bring into it the glory and the honour of the nations. But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practises abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street
  • 5. of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. The word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. Gospel Alleluia Choir: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia All: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia Cantor: Jesus said, if anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him. All: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia Gospeller: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John 14: 23-29 All: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus answered, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me. I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
  • 6. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe.” Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ: All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Homily: Fr Jonathan Eayrs Affirmation of Faith (Please stand as able.) The Apostles’ Creed p. 189 Prayers of the People led by Joyce Connell (Please kneel, as able, for the Prayers of the People) The Exchange of the Peace The Celebration of the Eucharist All who are baptized into Christ with water in the Name of the Holy Trinity are welcome to receive Holy Communion. If you will not be receiving, you are invited to come to the Communion rail for a blessing. Please indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest Offertory Hymn (During this hymn the gifts of bread and wine are presented and a collection is taken up.) Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways; reclothe us in our rightful mind, in purer lives thy service find,
  • 7. in deeper reverence, praise. In simple trust like theirs who heard, beside the Syrian sea, the gracious calling of the Lord, let us, like them, without a word, rise up and follow thee. O sabbath rest by Galilee, O calm of hills above, where Jesus knelt to share with thee the silence of eternity, interpreted by love! Drop thy still dews of quietness, till all our strivings cease; take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace. Breathe through the heats of our desire thy coolness and thy balm; let sense be dumb, let flesh retire; speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire, O still, small voice of calm. Please be seated for the anthem. Anthem: I waited for the Lord – Felix Mendelssohn I waited for the Lord, he inclined unto me, he heard my complaint. O bless’d are they that hope and trust in the Lord.
  • 8. Prayer over the Gifts: God of glory, accept all we offer you this day, and bring us to that eternal city of love and light, where Christ is King. We ask this in his name. Amen. Eucharistic Prayer 3 p. 198 The Lord’s Prayer (sung) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil, For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread Presider: Lord, we died with you on the cross. All: Now we are raised to new life. Presider: We were buried in your tomb. All: Now we share in your resurrection. Presider: Live in us, that we may live in you. Communion Hymn 649 “Breathe on me, breath of God” Presider: All your works praise you, O Lord. All: And your faithful people bless you. Gracious God we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. May we, who share his body,
  • 9. live his risen life; we, who drink his cup, bring life to others; we, whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so that we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Join us at St. Barnabas this evening for a program featuring Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, as well as two new pieces by Canadian composers Chris Thornborrow and Dean Burry. We’re very excited to be sharing the stage with young performers as well: the Musica Reflecta chamber orchestra will be joined onstage by the Mississauga Festival Youth Choir, and young pianist Laurelle Lassonde.
