1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
2. For my main task and my ancillary tasks imagery and written information
that was presented clearly presents my main two artists. I have done this
by using the same style of font and by representing my actors in the same
way throughout the products. By doing this it will allow the audience to
notice my products, and for them to create the connection of my three
products.
3. The representation I have put across in my music video is love and
relationships; so whilst creating my ancillary tasks I wanted to present this
as well, to show continuity. Whilst creating my ancillary tasks I wanted
something to represent them, this was the font, and the style of editing
used for the images. As the background was quite a dark grey/black colour
which represented the loneliness the couple have without each other, the
actual artists stand out against the background; representing that love
conquers the sadness. I have also done this is my music video as there is
a large number of scenes of my artists in front of a black background with
them standing out in front of it. In the ancillary's tasks I have used a
variation of black and white fonts, I mainly used white so it could stand out
like the artists to represent love and happiness, but have also used black
to show that sometimes you have to overcome darkness.
4. Continuity was a very important factor with my ancillary tasks. I
had to consider many different aspects whilst creating my
Magazine Advert and my CD DigiPak; which included a front
cover, back cover, disk and a lyrics page. I had to use a
continuous theme between the ancillary task to make sure it
was recognizable, and all fit together, this also would make it
more visually appealing to my target audience. To make sure I
followed this I added a few things to make sure it all fit together;
for example I used the same style fonts, and I also edited the
images in the same style. This would allow my audience to
notice my products easily; it is also suitable for the age group of
my target audience, children aged 11-18. I got my font from
www.dafont.com by using this website I was able to find a font
that was suitable for my target audience, suited the theme of my
products and represented my artists. For the images I used in
my ancillary task I made sure the background was darker than
my artists as this would draw more attention to the artists, as I
wanted them to be the main focus.
5. I have also presented my pieces in the same
style, by adding the same text in all three
pieces I have made it easier for the audience
to notice my product, and that it belongs to
my artists. By presenting them as a couple in
love I’ve challenged the typical conventions of
presenting love by not adding love hearts, or
doing a pink and red theme. I chose not to
design it like this as I didn’t want to show a
typical love theme, as I wanted it to be mainly
about them and how they overcome be alone.
I wanted to represent the two artists as strong
and independent, instead of fragile and
dependent on each other. In order to do this, I
kept the narrative in the music video simple
yet effective as I wanted the audience to
focus on the song and feel the connection
between the two artists.
6. As the producer as my products I have created I feel that they combine well, and that
the continuity has shown well throughout all of them. All of the products challenge
and use the conventions and characteristics of real media products. I have done this
by linking all my products together by using different effects; for example by editing
the images in the same style by using PicMonkey and AdobePhotoShop. I have then
used the images all from the same location as I wanted to keep the theme the same,
and by using different locations for the photo shoots this wouldn’t of worked in
presenting my artists in the same way. It also will help my audience create a link
between all my products, which will help them notice my products and artists.
7. I have used a large variation of camera shots, mainly mid shot, long shot and close
ups of my models faces. By doing this I have allowed the audience to capture the
actors expressions and emotions. As I have done the same angles and shots for all
my products, I have ensured that the audience will feel involved in the artists
emotions, and that the artists are speaking directly towards them.
8. My music video was the main piece overall in my projects, as the ancillary tasks just
add to my music video, and relate to advertising it. I feel I have followed the
conventions of music video, to create a product that will appeal to my target audience.
I chose the song ‘Meet Me Half Way’ by The Black Eyed Peas, as I felt I could
represent the love between the two characters in a different style as to how the
original video was presented. The original video was presented through a space, new
dimensional kind of style, and I felt that I could present it in a way that would
represent a love story through teenagers in our time. By presenting the story as a
typical teenager love story I would attract my target audience more. I also felt by
dressing my artists in more appropriate less provocative clothing it would appeal to
my target audience more, as teenagers don’t dress provocatively on a daily bases. By
not putting that thought into their mind that they had to dress sexually to attract
another person it was presenting a better image.
9. I feel that overall my music video and ancillary texts work well
together, as I have used a strong continuity throughout all
products by using the same text and same editing process. By
doing this I have made it more effective, and that it fits in with
the pop genre, even though I have challenged the stereotypical
pop genre by not adding a party scene in my music video. I
have made sure that the genre has been presented in the main
task and in the ancillary texts.
The main aim of the music video and ancillary tasks is to
present the artists love and relationship to the audience, and
that the audience can feel the emotions from both artists. I think
I have done this by using many different features; for example
by using certain camera angles and positions so you can see
the artists facial expressions at all times.
