1. A Survey of Web 2.0 Technologies for Online Classroom Learning CSM Third Annual Regional Conference Les Pang, PhD, MBA, CISSP Program Director and Collegiate Professor University of Maryland University College
Web 2.0 promises to be the new paradigm for collaboration, information sharing and creativity using the Internet as the platform. This presentation looks beyond the hype and the glamour and examines Web 2.0’s potential to improve classroom learning. Specifically examined are wikis, blogs, social networks, podcasting, video sharing websites (such as YouTube), and RSS feeds. The presentation covers basic descriptions of each approach, a list on how they can be used in the classroom, a demonstration of its use in a graduate-level online class, and a list of best practices for each approach. The presentation concludes with an examination of the next generation of Internet computing, Web 3.0, and projects its impact on the education community. Although the focus of this presentation is online teaching, the concepts are also relevant for face-to-face classes as well.
