St. Julia was born in South Africa and sold into slavery as a child after her city was conquered. As a slave to a merchant named Ebiscus, she remained devout in her faith and refused to participate in pagan rituals. When they stopped at a festival, the pagan governor tried to force her to sacrifice, and when she refused, he had her whipped and crucified. She is the patron saint of torched victims.
