They both have a large main heading, a banner of information at the top of the page, large heading about the main article in the magazine, and a banner at the bottom of the page with information in. They both have a main picture to draw the readers’ attention and they use the colour red to draw attention to a certain thing on the page. My magazine how ever uses different colours to NME and my magazine looks quite basic compared to NME – NME is very busy. The headings and banners are in similar places. This makes it look more appealing and logical. If the main heading was at the bottom, it wouldn’t make sense and wouldn’t be logical. A selling point for this page would be the main image. If the reader sees their favourite band/artist on the front cover, they will then read the heading about them and then maybe buy the magazine to read on. Also bold information might be a selling point because it grabs the readers’ attention and they will want to read on to find out more about it. 301117011303042545113030 Contents page These contents pages are quite similar in the respects that the heading “contents” and magazine name is at the top, the contents are all listed on the left hand side, there are image/images down the right side (and at the bottom), and page numbers on the images. They are different because my magazine uses different colours and looks more basic than Q. I have a competition at the bottom of my magazine to make it look more interesting. A selling point for this page might be what is listed in the contents. If something in the contents list takes the readers’ interest, then the reader will be more inclined to buy the magazine and read on. Also another selling point might be the images. Again, if the reader sees an image of their favourite artist/band then they will be more interested in the magazine and want to read on. 636270322961063627046990 Double page spread These double page spreads are quite similar because they both have a picture of the artist in question as the background, the text is in a white box, and the text is in columns. Also they have a close up and a medium shot of the band. One of the selling points is the heading. It is the largest text on the page and grabs the readers’ attention. It is short and snappy and gets the point across and makes you want to read on. Another selling point is the image. The image is of the artist, who the article is about, and draws attention to the page and makes you want to read on. Distribution The money to distribute a magazine would come from sponsors and advertisements from other companies. Sponsors and companies would pay the magazine money to advertise their products. This is a form of distribution for other companies too; they are distributing advertisements in many different ways. Another way the magazine gets money to distribute their magazine is printing more copies and selling them to as many stores as possible. I have researched the music magazine NME. It was bought by London music promoter Maurice Kinn in March 1952. NME uses lots of advertisements and sponsors such as Topshop. NME is part of the IPC Media Company, Time Warner Company and Ignite. IPC Media is one of the UK’s leading consumer magazine publishers, with a large portfolio, selling over 350 million copies each year. Time Warner is the world’s fourth largest entertainment conglomerate, as well as the world’s fourth largest media conglomerate. They are major operations in film, TV, publishing, internet service and telecommunications. Within this are New Cinema line, HBO and cartoon network and many more. They are a huge business and have lots of connections and are known world wide. Magazines are sold in newsagents and supermarkets all over the UK. Subscriptions to magazines can be made and delivered right to your door. Also some magazines can be viewed online.
