This presentation supported the speech delivered by Gabriele Ruffatti, founder of the SpagoWorld initiative and founder and OW2 President (www.ow2.org), at OSS 2013 - the International Conference on Open Source Systems (Koper, Slovenia, 25th-28th June 2013). The first part of the presentation focuses on open source, innovation and next challenges in the context of the "nexus of events". The second part provides various examples of how Spago4Q (www.spago4q.org) - SpagoBI analytic for quality - supports a quality assurance and trustworthiness program. It includes a preview of the speech to be delivered at IT Confidence 2013 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), presenting how Spago4Q is being used as the key tool inside a complete Application Lifecycle Management process. Spago4Q allows the evaluation of corporate performances through a 3D model integrating data coming from three dimensions of analysis: Technical, Economical and Social.

The Research Software Alliance (ReSA) and the Netherlands eScience Center hosted a two-day international workshop to set the future agenda for national and international funders to support sustainable research software. As the importance of software in research has become increasingly apparent, so has the urgent need to sustain it. Funders can play a crucial role in this respect by ensuring structural support. Over the past few years, a variety of methods for sustaining research software have been explored, including improving and extending funding policies and instruments. During the workshop, funding organizations joined forces to explore how they can effectively contribute to making research software sustainable. This presentation is about engaging mainstream users for OSS ecosystem sustainability. Open source is becoming mainstream but there are still looming uncertainties about the sustainability of its ecosystem made of some keystone projects and many SMEs. The user is the missing component of the OSS ecosystem’s sustainability. We must put the user back into the equation. This presentation introduces the Market Readiness Levels index, the OW2 OSS Good Governance initiative and the ReachOut beta-testing platform. three initiatives leveraging the resources and experience of OW2’s European community of open source projects with the ambition to engage mainstream users and make them more comfortable and more committed to the long-term term sustainability and success of the European open source ecosystem.

In their presentation, O’Brien-Scott and Cakici focused on what Enterprise AI is, why it is important, and what it takes to empower organizations to get started on a search-based AI journey and stay on track.
