In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?<br />Within my magazine I have used many forms of conventions. One convention I have used is a masthead, like in a typical rock magazine I have placed the masthead behind the artists head that are on the front cover. <br />Like on any other magazine I have made the cover lines go alongside the front cover and not go across the face of my models in the picture.<br />On the front of my magazine I have placed the barcode along with the price, the date and the issue number of the magazine.<br />There is generally a main cover line going across the front cover to show the main feature of the magazine, which is then followed by a pull quote from the article inside, I have fallowed this and done the same on my magazine.<br />The pictures I have used thought my magazine are very similar to those that will have been used in either Kerrang! Or Q, they all like with the style of the magazine and the style of the readers and there music taste.<br />
How does your media product represent particular social groups?<br />Throughout my media product both genders are represented, but from my research and from some of my elements within the magazine it shows that it is more of a female orientated magazine. The main proof of this is the pictures used throughout, they are all of women apart from one that has 2 female and 1 male however this still shows women to be more dominant.<br />The social class of my media product isn't really represented that strongly, <br />but the price of the magazine shows that it is for a middle class range, as do <br />the clothes worn by the artists in the pictures. <br />I have no examples of different ethnicity's within my magazine as all of my<br />models are white. There is no reason for this, and it was not a conscious <br />decision to do so.<br />Uses and Gratifications:<br /> - Information - Finding out about relevant events and conditions in immediate surroundings, society and the world.<br /> - Personal Identity - Finding models of behaviour.<br /> - Integration + Social Interactions - Identifying with others and gaining a sense of belonging.<br /> - Entertainment - Relaxing.<br />These four points explain how my readers are all about there music and how they like to fallow the models they are given in my magazine. These points are shown within each part of my magazine, like my pictures show them all in similar clothes and show them to love what they are doing, or espier to do things. <br />They are all wearing similar clothes!<br />
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?<br />Bauer Media<br />Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, <br />Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. <br />The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over <br />300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV <br />and radio stations.<br />Bauer Media Brands are Q magazine and Kerrang! <br />Q music brand has expanded to Radio and Television, <br />with Q Radio and Q TV. Kerrang! brand from Bauer <br />which also exists in Kerrang Radio and Kerrang! <br />magazine.<br />Some of Bauer Media Brands include Q an indie magazine and Kerrang! a rock magazine. These two products have both been expanded to radio and television.<br />H Bauer brands include women’s weekly and TV listings magazines (Bella, Take a Break, that’s life! TVChoice and Total TVGuide as well as a number of puzzle magazines) This is good for my magazine as it is aimed at younger women so they will know how to aim towards the target audience.<br />I would also choose them to distribute my media magazine because they are known for there indie or rock magazines and I think my magazine would fit in well. I see that they only have indie or rock magazines and not indie rock magazines as one. I find it good as then there will be little competition for the selection of both but then good as they will be well known in how to help publish and show off my magazine more as they have worked with magazines that are the same genres. Also they have managed to expand there products into radio and television, and they have a<br />
Who would be the audience for your media product?<br />The audience for my media product, are generally women around the ages of 16-21. Even though it is generally women, some men may be in the target range as they might have the same interests.The type of audience is obvious to the clothes of the models and to the genre of my magazine, my audience will typically wear skinny jeans, a music themed t-shirt and either some biker boots or some form of trainers. I will have a similar audience to Kerrang! and Q, but mine is more of a female dominance.<br />My Typical Magazine Reader:<br />My typical reader is a 16/17 year old female in around a B-D social group. She is very keen about the style/genre of music that she listens to and likes to fit in with the “indie rocker” look. She enjoys going to gigs whenever she gets the chance, or she spends her time singing in a band. She dresses in mostly black, she wears black skinny trousers, with a t-shirt that will generally have a band logo on them, or have something to do with music like a guitar or music notes. She dresses in this way so she fits in with the style of music that she listens to, so would wear Vans, Converse, DC, Etnies, or clothes from the DropDead clothing line. No matter what she’s doing, music is always a part of her everyday life.<br />Hear are front covers from Q, Kerrang! and my magazine cover. The clothes on each model are very similar on all of them. <br />This explains who my typical magazine reader is, what they would wear, and what they are like.<br />
How did you attract/address your audience?<br />To attract my target audience I used many techniques. I decided to made my front cover quite simple but effective, I thought that if it was too busy it wouldn’t look professional so made the little amount on it bold and bright so it would stand out. I didn't really use many colours, I used lots of blacks and whites, with a little yellow and red, I decided that the use of black and white would make it look more professional and the use of yellow and red would stand out and attract the age range of the target audience.<br />I took the picture in the style of see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil, this was more of a natural than posed image, and I decided to take each image like this to show the audience how open and fun the artists are. The mise-en-scene of these pictures fits the style of my audience, as they wear the clothes that my target audience would wear and they position themselves to show they are fun and not a posed/fake group.<br />To address my audience I used a higher picture to text ratio, this was so it would draw them in quicker and as I found out in my research, younger people enjoy having more pictures than text throughout a magazine.<br />The language style I used is very casual and informal, so that it fits the age range of my audience with words like ‘gig’ and ‘fest’ so that it addresses the audience and is something they are use to while reading it.<br />
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?<br />I don’t think that I could have completed my project without using any technology, because the final product wouldn’t look professional as I would of had to of hand drawn everything. <br />I could have done my project without using everything but the internet and Photoshop for the software and everything but a computer, a camera and an SD card.<br />I couldn’t do without Photoshop throughout all of my constructing of my product because my final product wouldn't have turned out as professional as it would have to have been hand drawn.<br />The positives of using technology is that if you know how to use it then it is a lot faster, the end product will turn out to be a lot more professional, and the and easier to change things around.<br />The negatives with using technology is that you need to know how to use what your using, otherwise it could take ages to work things out, you need to have the correct application on each computer if you need to open it up on another computer, and can be expensive to buy or set up if you don't have the correct one, as it is always changing so it will cost a lot to keep it up to date.<br />
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?<br />I have learnt how to use Photoshop a lot faster, as I have learnt all the short cuts and how to do new things and faster ways of doing certain things.<br />I found that for the background on the front cover, people look better on a plain background than a busy background as it makes them stand out more, and it makes the text a lot easier to read and also stand out more as it isn't clashing with the background.<br />I learnt that it looks better without the blocks on behind the cover lines as the blocks blend the text all in together, yet without them you can make the more important ones bigger and stand out more than the rest., also they took up more space and clocked out more of the pictures.<br />
