During the ESD Course 1, learners were introduced to the UN 2030 Agenda, the concepts and issues of sustainability etc. Information and libraries are key in achieving at least some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The IFLA (www.ifla.org) was actively involved in creating the UN 2030 Agenda and launched the International Advocacy Programme (IAP) in 2016, a new capacity-building programme designed to promote and support the role libraries can play in the planning and implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. This presentation (as the End of Course-Assignment) aims at exploring a possible application to the library environment (both as a space, a building, and as a community). Pictures from the “Biblioteca Statuario” depict some of the activities that are SDGs compliant.

GIS Analysis Of The Dequindre CutJustin Lyons

This document analyzes demographic and housing data around six entry points to the Dequindre Cut greenway in Detroit using GIS tools. The analysis found that the majority of the population is located near entry points 4 and 5, with entry point 4 having the most housing units and highest percentage of vacant units within a half mile. Seven schools were also identified within a half mile of an entry point, with opportunities to use the greenway for access. In conclusion, density and development opportunities exist concentrated around the central entry points along the greenway.

Peter Löwe presented strategies and challenges for libraries in archiving and sharing research data in the big data era. He discussed the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) which provides access to over 9 million items and its strategy to move beyond just text by developing services for audiovisual and other types of big data. Löwe summarized TIB's use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and ORCID IDs to provide foundational infrastructure for open science. He also presented the Research Data Repository (RADAR) project and discussed future scenarios for libraries, including the roles of data scientists and potential mergers between libraries and computation centers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated or made more visible many known inequalities across borders and societies. This includes access to archaeological resources, both physical and digital. As both the creators and users of archaeological data adapted to working from their homes, cut off from artefact collections and research data siloed within organisations and institutions, the importance of making data freely and openly available internationally became even more pronounced. The ARIADNE infrastructure (ariadne-infrastructure.eu) for archaeological data, and the SEADDA COST Action (seadda.eu) are working to secure the sustainable future of archaeological data across Europe and beyond, in ways that are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable (FAIR). Experience within the ARIADNE partnership during the pandemic was largely positive, with many partners able to carry on as usual with accessing their digital resources, emphasising what is possible, while also emphasising what is not achievable across archaeology, due to lack of capacity. ARIADNE and SEADDA invite papers discussing the challenges, opportunities and lessons learned across all aspects of archaeological data management during the pandemic, and how it may change and inform our best practice going forward. We particularly invite papers from outside of Western Europe on how the COVID-19 pandemic created barriers or opportunities for accessing archaeological resources, so that we may better understand capacity building during a post-COVID era.

Presentation by Harry Lankreijer, ICOS-Carbon Portal, Lund University, Sweden. ICOS is a pan-European research infrastructure (RI) for observing and understanding the greenhouse gas (GHG) balance of Europe and its adjacent regions. The major task of ICOS is to collect and make available in a transparent manner, the high-quality observational data from its state-of-the-art measurement stations. These ICOS data – from atmosphere, ecosystem and ocean stations – will contribute to research aiming to describe and understand the present state of the global carbon cycle. The Carbon Portal will be the virtual data center that present the data products and make it available. This presentation will briefly present the work of ICOS and the Carbon Portal towards open data with FAIR principles. ICOS has an open data policy with free use, requesting the user to give appropriate credit (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 ). The Carbon Portal is developing a data catalogue using an ontology based on a semantic metadata description. This will make it possible to integrate ICOS observations with data from other RI’s as well with data of global networks. For integration, the Carbon Portal is actively following the developments of international standards for eg. metadata and data citation.

Like many countries around the world, Pakistan was forced to go into a COVID-19 national lockdown in March 2020. While this confined most people to their homes, it also had the unintended consequence of catapulting many institutions into embracing going digital. At the National College of Arts (NCA), Pakistan’s oldest art school, this meant embracing online tools and digital resources that had previously been resisted or under utilized in the teaching of art, design, and architecture. The experiences of lockdown have highlighted inadequacies and inequities within our systems, and as Pakistan returns to normal there is a renewed will to maintain the momentum gained during the pandemic, and an increased realization of the need for developing and sustaining digital infrastructures. The National College of Arts Archives collect and preserve the records, manuscripts, and other artefacts of historical and archaeological significance at the National College of Arts. From March 2021, the NCA Archives are initiating a project to collect, preserve, and digitize historic building documentation created at the NCA over the past 145 years. This paper will follow this process and document the NCA Archive’s attempt at creating a Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) database of historic building documentation in Pakistan. It will summarize the experiences of the six-month pilot project, including opportunities that have arisen in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in light of the Government of Pakistan’s ongoing Digital Pakistan initiative. The paper will also document and analyze the difficulties and hurdles that might emerge during the course of the project as the NCA Archive’s digital infrastructure is built from the ground up in a post-colonial setting and a post-COVID world.

Bibliometric-enhanced Information Retrieval: Connecting IR with BibliometricsGESIS

Philipp Mayr gave a presentation on bibliometric-enhanced information retrieval (BIR). He discussed how BIR connects information retrieval and bibliometrics by modeling bibliometric concepts and integrating them into IR systems. Some examples of BIR research included document ranking, query expansion, and recommendation based on author keywords, topics, and citation networks. Workshops on BIR have aimed to bring together retrieval and bibliometrics researchers. While some experimental BIR systems exist, few approaches have been implemented in production search engines. Semantic Scholar was presented as one system that has integrated bibliometric concepts into its IR model.

Das Doppelhaus: Werkstattbericht aus der MARC/RDA Working Group Vortrag beim 109. Deutschen Bibliothekartag 2021 Auf der Basis des IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM) wurden im Zuge des 3R-Projekts neue Entitätentypen und neue Elemente in das Regelwerk Resource Description and Access (RDA) eingebracht. Um sie nutzbar zu machen, gilt es, sie im Datenformat MARC 21 abzubilden, soweit es notwendig und zugleich technisch möglich ist. MARC 21 ist auch über 50 Jahre nach seiner Entstehung noch immer das international am weitesten verbreitete bibliografische Datenformat. Das Network Development and MARC Standards Office (NDMSO) der Library of Congress hat im Dezember 2019 die "MARC/RDA Working Group" gebildet, zusammengesetzt aus internationalen Fachleuten für RDA und MARC 21. Für den deutschsprachigen Bereich ist Reinhold Heuvelmann benannt worden. Die Gruppe hat in bisher vier halbjährlichen Zyklen Analysen erstellt zu den neuen Themenbereichen "Manifestation Statements", "Mode of Issuance", "Extension Plan", "Type of Binding" und "Data Provenance", die dann als Diskussionspapiere und Anträge für das MARC Advisory Committee vorbereitet worden sind. Bisher resultieren daraus die neuen Felder 334 "Mode of Issuance", 335 "Extension Plan" und 881 "Manifestation Statements". Auch an dem Thema der "Representative Expression" und ihrer Attribute wird weitergearbeitet. Mit dem vorläufigen Abschluss der Arbeiten ist für das Frühjahr 2022 zu rechnen. Der Vortrag stellt den aktuellen Stand und den Fortgang der Arbeiten dar und versucht auch, die Spannungsfelder bei der Regelwerks- und Formatentwicklung zu beleuchten.

Open Access, Embargo, Lizenzangaben, Creative Commons, Rights Statements, Rechteinhaber – diese Begriffe bezeichnen ein aktuell intensiv diskutiertes Themenfeld. Kann ich eine Online-Publikation bekommen, sofort, kostenfrei und egal wo ich mich gerade befinde? Und wenn ja: Was kann und darf ich dann damit machen, und was eventuell nicht? Und was sollte ich sonst beachten? Diese Angaben sind bisher in Metadatenformaten unterrepräsentiert. Teils liegen sie an unterschiedlichen Stellen und in unterschiedlicher Form vor, teils sind die Elemente nicht besetzt, teils fehlen die Aussagemöglichkeiten ganz. Hier gilt es Verbesserungen zu erreichen: Ziel ist es, konsistente und maschinell auswertbare Daten zu ermitteln, zu erstellen und transportieren zu können, auf deren Basis den Endnutzenden die Informationen zu Zugang und Nutzung und ihren Bedingungen angeboten werden. Der Vortrag schildert das Vorgehen im Datenformat MARC 21: Von der Ermittlung des Bedarfs und dem Auftrag durch den Standardisierungsausschuss, über die Analysen und Diskussionen in der Themengruppe Lizenzangaben als Untergruppe der Fachgruppe Datenformate und in der DINI Gruppe Lizenzen, bis zur Zusammenarbeit mit OCLC an Diskussionspapieren und einem MARC-Antrag und der internationalen Standardisierung im MARC Advisory Committee, resultierend in der abschließenden Entscheidung. Ein Ausblick auf Empfehlungen und die Anwendung der Formatelemente, deren Einführung bevorsteht, rundet den Vortrag ab.

In the days of AACR2 and MARC 21, the distinction between a rules standard and a format standard seemed to be straightforward: The rules standard provided instructions on which pieces of information are relevant, and how to build and provide them. The format standard then accommodated these pieces, creating structured elements in a defined technical framework so that information could be created, stored and communicated. Nowadays, the line between rules standards and format standards seems to be blurred. Based on relatively new models, the standard "Resource Description and Access" not only provides instructions in a toolkit, but adds blocks for handling the information on its own, e.g. as "RDA in RDF" data. On the other hand, "BIBFRAME" was developed, one of the goals being to define a successor to the MARC 21 format. Based on a model with a slightly different approach, it aims to cover different rules standards, among which RDA is the most prominent one. Both RDA and BIBFRAME are based on Linked Data principles, but they have chosen different paths. In my lightning talk I share some observations, from a German perspective, collected over some years of active participation in MARC 21 standardization and BIBFRAME experimentation, as a bystander of the FRBR and RDA development, and still as a newbie in Linked Data. There are more questions than answers.

Nach Planungen im Jahr 2011, nach Vertragsabschluss zwischen der LoC und der Firma Zepheira sowie Veröffentlichung des ersten Modellpapiers "Bibliographic Framework as a Web of Data" in 2012 folgten ein arbeitsintensives Jahr 2013, das unter Beteiligung der DNB von den Aktivitäten der Early Experimenters Group geprägt war, ein konsolidierendes Jahr 2014, in dem das bestehende Vokabular auf Praxistauglichkeit hin geprüft wurde, und ein Jahr 2015, in dem BIBFRAME mit unterschiedlichen Ansätzen (LC Pilot, Libhub.org, LD4L/LD4P) weiter vorangetrieben wurde. In meinem Vortrag gehe ich der Frage nach, welchen Stellenwert die BIBFRAME-Initiative im Umfeld der Linked Library Data einnimmt. Nun ist es Zeit zu fragen, was erreicht wurde und wie es weiter geht. In dem Vortrag soll beleuchtet werden, welchen Stellenwert die BIBFRAME-Initiative im Umfeld der Linked Library Data einnimmt, bisher, und besonders in den kommenden Jahren. Automated Engineering of Domain-Specific Metamorphic Testing EnvironmentsPablo Gómez Abajo

Context. Testing is essential to improve the correctness of software systems. Metamorphic testing (MT) is an approach especially suited when the system under test lacks oracles, or they are expensive to compute. However, building an MT environment for a particular domain (e.g., cloud simulation, model transformation, machine learning) requires substantial effort. Objective. Our goal is to facilitate the construction of MT environments for specific domains. Method. We propose a model-driven engineering approach to automate the construction of MT environments. Starting from a meta-model capturing the domain concepts, and a description of the domain execution environment, our approach produces an MT environment featuring comprehensive support for the MT process. This includes the definition of domain-specific metamorphic relations, their evaluation, detailed reporting of the testing results, and the automated search-based generation of follow-up test cases. Results. Our method is supported by an extensible platform for Eclipse, called Gotten. We demonstrate its effectiveness by creating an MT environment for simulation-based testing of data centres and comparing with existing tools; its suitability to conduct MT processes by replicating previous experiments; and its generality by building another MT environment for video streaming APIs. Conclusion. Gotten is the first platform targeted at reducing the development effort of domain-specific MT environments. The environments created with Gotten facilitate the specification of metamorphic relations, their evaluation, and the generation of new test cases.
