2. Introduction:
• The purpose of this presentation is to educate
the reader about Dwight D. Eisenhower’s
accomplishments through the eyes of a war
veteran.
• You will learn about how his strategic and
exceptional leadership, set the tone for WWII’s
many accomplishments and his abundant
problem solving skills as the 34th President of
the United States.
3. Introduction (Cont.)
• Dwight D. Eisenhower was Supreme Commander
during WWII. He was elected the 34th President of the
United States.
• He was a strategic general, with great leadership and
management skills. His abilities allowed him to be
chosen as the Supreme Commander for all allied
forces in Europe during WWII.
• He was big on Civil Rights and Foreign Policies.
• Technology - Eisenhower used it to his advantage;
he was the first President to hold a televised news
conference and the first to have an advertising
agency produce a television campaign commercial
for his reelection.
4. Military accomplishments:
• Eisenhower was a brilliant forger of alliances, partnerships and
coalitions.
• A master at using the full range of diplomatic, political, and
economic resources to win World War II, he also used those
resources to win the peace.
• As supreme commander of the Allied military coalition in World War
II — in the Mediterranean and then in Northwest Europe — General
Eisenhower made the crucial and frequently controversial decisions
that led to victory. He held together the military alliance. The shining
moment for his command came at Dday in early June 1944, when
he led his successful Allied forces in the greatest amphibious
invasion in history.
• He relentlessly promoted unity among the nations allied in
opposition to communist aggression, as he did among the services
in the U.S. military establishment.
5. Cont. /Military accomplishments
• He never shied from controversy, even when it could
have seriously jeopardized his future. He made
decisions tactically.
• No commander ever cared more for the safety and
well being of his soldiers. Shortly after D-Day he
wrote: “The soldiers, sailors, and airmen are
indescribable in their elan, courage, determination
and fortitude. They inspire me.” To his generals he
was a stern, demanding commander, but to his
troops he was simply “Ike."
• He resigned from the Army on February 7, 1948 to
serve as president of Columbia University.

8. Characteristics of an Effective Leader:
• There are many factors that contribute to effective leadership, and I
will address.
• The first characteristic of effective leadership is empathy, an
understanding and identification with another person's feelings,
situation and goals.
• An effective leader shows a tenacious determination and resolve,
never wavering in spite of obstacles.
• A good leader must be able to detach themselves from the situation
and analyze it from a distance.
• a leader must have excellent communication skills.
• Not every leader will have an intimate knowledge of the subject, but he
will be able to turn to the people in the know and gather any necessary
resources as required.
• Some positive leadership traits that Eisenhower possessed was his
ability to be “honest, self-reliant, hardworking, ambitious, and God
fearing.
9. My Leadership Qualities:
• I have excellent leadership skills. I am hard driving, with great
analytical skills. I always talk with my co-workers using great
communication skills. I love to trouble shot a lot of issues on
my job, so I have great problem solving skills. Some simple
examples are:
• Integrity
• Excellent Trainer
• Confident
• Strong Team builder
• Honorable
• Loyal
• Great listener
• Good Decision Making
10. Defining Leadership Qualities:
• I strongly believe there are five main qualities you must have that define your true leadership qualities
and here they are:
•
• 1. Desire - One must have a strong desire to see others succeed. A leader must give and serve to his
followers in order to gain success and the right to be known as a leader.
•
• 2. Faith - As the great Napoleon Hill states in his masterpiece "Think and Grow Rich", "FAITH is the
starting point of all accumulation of riches!" Just as we have faith in religion, family, and friends, a true
leader will have faith in their team of followers and believe in each and every one of them without
discrimination.
•
• 3. Commitment - A strong and un-deniable commitment to your team of followers is crucial. Individuals
feel that sense of dedication and commitment to seeing them succeed from the one specific leader that
they are looking to for success and if for some odd reason that confidence and feeling of security goes
missing, so will the individual and, make no mistake about it, several others.
•
• 4. Honesty - Honesty and Integrity go hand-in-hand in showing excellent leadership qualities. Dishonesty
in your leadership will be noticed, if not immediately, but in due time and can destroy all efforts made to
succeed. So let's keep it simple, remain at all times honest with your following team, and you will always
be their leader.
•
• 5. Uniqueness - This is a great quality to have. As people, not one person is the same and we are already
unique amongst others. Being unique in leadership maintains the focus on you as a leader and you will
always maintain the interest of your team members. There's nothing worse than becoming a boring
leader. It's a sure way to not be considered a leader at all.
11. An Impressive Display:
• In May of that same year, Eisenhower was sent to
Europe, tasked with building unity amongst the
Allies as the Commanding General of the European
Theater.
• By November he was the Commander in Chief of the
Allied forces in Africa, and carried out Operation
Torch, and in the next year, he became Commander
of the invasion of Sicily and Italy.
• Nearly a year after Operation Torch, the planning for
Operation Overlord, commonly known as D-Day,
came underway, and Dwight became the Supreme
Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces.
12. Operation Overlord and the Five
Star General
• On June 6, 1944, Operation Overlord
was executed, and the day was marked
as the beginning of the end for the Axis
of Evil, with Dwight Eisenhower the
proprietor of their doom.
• In December, Dwight was promoted to
five star General of the Army to
commemorate his actions on D-Day
13. The Closing of Theatres:
• In May, 1945, Germany surrendered to
the Allied forces, bringing the bloodiest
conflict in history to a close.
• Dwight Eisenhower was name Military
Governor of United States Controlled
Zones at the close of the war, and in
November, he was selected as the U.S.
Army’s Chief of Staff.
14. President Dwight D. Eisenhower
• On November 4, 1952, Dwight Eisenhower became the 34th
president of the United States.
• Dwight’s Presidency was marked by a strong push for peace
around the world, with him having overseen the cease fire of
the Korean War, pushed for peace with the Soviet Union
regardless of America’s strong anti-communist beliefs, and
refusal of Military intervention in Vietnam.
• The slogan of Dwight’s presidency became “Peace and
Prosperity”, marking the five star general as a man of cause,
one who fought for the results of the mission, and not the
mission itself.
• Eisenhower became the first president to be forced from office
by the constitution, as he had served two full terms, but it is
likely he would have won a third.
15. Eisenhower’s Military Awards:
• During his service, Eisenhower received many awards and
decorations, here is a list of those he won (these are only American
Awards, as there is not enough space to list those he won
internationally, because they number, combined, at 61).
1. Army Distinguished Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters

4. Mexican Border Service Medal
5. World War I Victory Medal

four bronze service stars
9. World War II Victory Medal
10. Army of Occupation Medal with "Germany" clasp

16. Accomplishments of President Eisenhower:
• He oversaw the cease-fire of the Korean War
• kept up the pressure on the Soviet Union during the
Cold War
• made nuclear weapons a higher defense priority,
• launched the Space Race
• enlarged the Social Security program

It is truly a honor to present a presentation about a man that has set himself apart from many other leaders, not only in the military but also in the civilian world as well. Like any normal guy, Eisenhower had his faults but he took them later in life and proved that he could be one of the most respected true great leaders of today in the history books.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was truly a remarkable leader with great abilities that allow him to make his mark in the history books. His outstand and careful planning was truly that of a strategic leader. His accomplishments as both a great commander and president make him one to remember always, with the fine makings of a great leader of all time.
There are been many generals throughout the many wars in the past, all with great leadership skills. Many have accomplished many things in their times, but none have ever held the rank of once Supreme Commander of all allied forces going into Europe. General Eisenhower has set the path for us all to follow and develop our own style of leadership and perhaps make our day in history one day.
General Eisenhower was never one to move around anything. His many accomplishments throughout his military career have been lead by his outstanding leadership and abilities to communicate with his many soldiers of all ranks and his dealing with many different types of civilian figures
As a career soldier in the U.S. Army, I have spent most of my time overseas in many conflicts and peace keeping missions since 1991. The military has taught me a lot of wonderful things but now it is time for me to develop my civilian leadership skills as well. I have always been a supervisor and now I wish to work somewhere in a management position and lead others as I have done so in the U.S Army.
Every chain of command, will start with the lowest and move to the highest. But one must understand everyone in the chain of command plays an important part. From the ones to make it happen, to the strongest leaders at the top. A chain of command is also about building teamwork. In the chain of command, if one goes down then others must be ready at all times to step up and take command and lead the way. Remember, it is not about where you are in the chain of command, but its about carrying out your important and building that teamwork within that chain of command.
Great leaders have great skills that make them excellent leaders. They are good planners. They always take the time to listen and understand the problems around them, and find ways to fix them. Good leaders with good communication skills are the best type of leaders. Striving to be the best you can be, is all one can ask of yourself.
Leadership qualities are not always given or earned, they are truly developed. A successful leader must have great skills in other to lead others in peace or war. Leadership qualities are the way to truly become a success in life. People who show great leadership skills are the most likely ones to become great leaders. Leadership qualities are not measured by how many you have but how you develop them and help to train others and build teamwork and lead others.
Leadership is a very debating thing, meaning some people feel that others are just born with great leadership qualities. Others feel it is what one learns and trains on as they grow up into the world. We all have our opinions are it, but one can always know that if you learn from your mistakes then either way you are still defining and developing your leadership skills.
General Eisenhower was a leader with great qualities to get any job done. His Chain of Command, could see how great of a leader he was by the way, he was in carefully planning things out. His concern for the men under his command, made him a even greater leader. To send many into battle is never a easy decision but with careful planning, one can always say I did everything I could to make sure it was a success.
Operation Overlord was one of the most successful beach landing ever made in history. It involved so much planning, and with timing, the weather, and the element of surprise. General Eisenhower made the right decision, with everything riding on his sole shoulders to push the allied forces into Europe.
General Eisenhower was glad to see the war come to a end. But he could never forget the many men who died there on the shores and beaches of D-day, and many other battles. Even though the military trained him to be a great leader, he was already instilled with the great qualities of a excellent leader.
President Eisenhower was the 34th president of the united states. His ideas and thoughts were that of the future one day. He always lived for the present day, but he prepared careful for the future, and that future was for the nation. Even today, he is still one of the most talked about president of his time and many accomplishments.
General Eisenhower was an amazing military leader. His list of award are countless. Although he himself never really served in direct combat his military, he was always first to think about the safety and hardship of others in battle. Although the awards were many for all soldiers of all kind, his were a reflection of his great strategic leadership.
One can say many things about President Eisenhower, his outstanding leadership led us in many ways. He was always one to look at the nation before anything else when he was president. He would never blame others for his decisions, just as he said after D-day, If any fault is to blame, it is mine and mine alone. A true brilliant leader.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was a truly gifted man with outstanding leadership. Given the responsibility of many men and the care of the nation, Eisenhower has truly shown us how great one can be, with the right types of leadership qualities in life. It has really honored me to summarize his truly amazing accomplishments and same examples of his great leadership throughout his lifetime. We salute you Dwight D. Eisenhower, for a great job in the leadership of many worldwide and the care of the people in our nation.
