IAMCP MENTORING
Mentorship is a seemingly simple concept. Get some help from someone more experienced than you. So why do we bother teaching a class on it? Because like anything else it's a skill to mentor and be mentored. And if we can learn that skill it can be a real gift, both to give and receive. But first of all you've got to know what you're looking for in mentorship. Is it a handout or real help? Do you want answers or are you really looking to learn? For those looking to learn and build not just knowledge but skills for self sufficiency, mentoring can be a mutually rewarding gift. Think of the process of being mentored as a game of chess. You can easily ask for the next move, but wouldn't you rather learn to master the game? See the presentation to learn 3 skills to get you going on that path:-

The Business Plan is the traditional document that established businesses and non-profit organizations as well as startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators use to document their strategy and tactics for achieving goals in projects. However, the traditional business plan is voluminous, complex, filled with grand hypotheses (vision), and becomes increasingly irrelevant as a project proceeds in the real world. In recent years, many individuals and organizations have been abandoning the traditional business/strategic plan in favor of one-page documents that present project plans, business models, and ecosystems. The most common one-page project summaries are currently the tools of the Business Model Canvas, Lean Canvas, and One-Page Lean Startup. This presentation briefly introduces and compares these three business model (ecosystem) mapping tools especially using the workflow of 8 activities for Lean Startup Project Management. Which business model (ecosystem) mapping tool is your favorite? And why? What other tools are you using for summarizing, presenting, and managing your project plans as well as business models and ecosystems? We look forward to hearing from you. Best regards.

Congratulations, you got an interview... now what?! During this workshop we'll look at what to expect when interviewing at different types of libraries: academic, special, and public. We'll discuss both remote and in-person interviews, and talk about the importance of doing your research, preparing questions for your interviewers, and showing confidence and personality during your interview. We will talk about, and critique, interview-appropriate attire, as well as give you tips on staying comfortable while looking professional. We will work on developing your elevator pitch, and practice answering the most commonly asked interview questions. And, finally, we will provide advice on how to follow up after the interview. Throughout, we'll emphasize how to go beyond the qualifications listed on your resume in order to show a potential employer that you are the right candidate for the job.

The number one goal for many of us, whether we are fresh out of library school or not, is finding a job. And not just any job -- a job that we like, a job that we can grow in and learn from and feel proud of, a job that will enhance our skill sets and propel our careers. But the process of finding a job can be a difficult one and, at times, a long and treacherous journey. This hands-on workshop will help you feel more confident in your job search by giving you the tools to organize a search, analyze job listings, and write effective, compelling cover letters and resumes. We will also discuss the importance of creating, and maintaining, a professional online presence and look at examples of online portfolios and profiles on different platforms. All of which will help get you noticed -- in a good way, and get you one step closer to the interview.
