1. Temple (gopuram, idols, tanks, etc) - constructors with sculptors/painters
2. Music instruments – makers and players
3. Flowers/ Thoranams – Florists and garland makers
4. Jewels – Makers and sellers
5. Clothes – Weavers and sellers
6. Milk, Curd, Ghee – Cow herds
7. Neivedhyam – farmers / traders ( rice, vegetables, grains, fruits, etc)
8. Mud/Metal lamps(include oil) - makers and sellers
9. Camphor makers and sellers
10. Arathi/ Samaram – makers and sellers
11. Ther / Chaparam /Umbrella/Bell makers
12. Othuvars
13. Priests
14. Artists (singers, dancers, story tellers)
15. Vibudhi/Kumkum/ Sandanam makers and sellers
16. Utencils and cooks for Anna dhanams/ Prasadam preparations

14. Varna Dharma
• In works we have covered Tradesmen, Priests and Farmers.
• Once when temple is built and jewels are kept in temple…who will protect
and defend it, along with temple?
• Warrior class not only protects temple, but also the people who built it
and whose livelihood depends on it for their economic and spiritual life.
• A glorious social set up(when we traded in gold/silver coins) on the basis
of division of labour like honey bees, everyone is respected for the work
and each one depends on the other.
• Look at Mylapore temple and see how its surrounding small shops have
grown multi-storied complexes…you will see such examples in your own
towns/villages…
• Its not merely Hindu religious tradesmen who keep shops near temple, but
even non Hindu tradesmen keep their shops near Hindu temple.
• But who is responsible for the current mess we find ourselves now?
