WHAT IS INNOVATION ?
The definitions of innovation include:
 Process of making improvements by introducing something new;
 Process of implementing new ideas for improvement of teaching
learning process;
 An idea, strategy, method or device;
 Changes that create a new dimension of performance in any aspect of
teaching learning; and
 A creative idea that is realized through the use of alternative
strategies or techniques.
 Capabilities of realising a desired change continuously in order to
sustain it over a period of time.

SUGGESTED EXAMPLES
 Devise a new approach/instructional strategy in any subject area;
 Prepare and use innovative teaching-learning materials including ICT;
 Identification and mobilization /use of resources drawn from the
local community/ environment for improvement of teaching-learning;
 Develop local specific curricular materials for teaching-learning;
 Develop innovative strategies for classroom management leading to
an improvement in the organizational climate or better use of
available resources in the class or school;
 Management of inter-personal relationships;
 Assessment of learning outcomes of students;
 Evolve strategies for inculcation of Peace and other human values;
 Devise strategies for educating differently abled children;
 Study learning styles of children/student-teachers/ teacher educators;
and Sensitizing and empowering disadvantaged groups.

PRE-PROJECT PLANNING & CONDITIONS
 Seek the permission of your Principal in advance for implementation
 Paper should be based on the original and independent work of one person or
a team of 2-3 persons. The cash prize will be divided equally among team
members.
 Only one paper can be submitted by an individual or a team in a year for the
competition.
 The paper should not be based on the participant’s dissertation or thesis
submitted for MA/M.Ed, M.Phil / Ph.D degree.
 The paper may be written in either in Hindi or in English.
 Word limit: 2500-3500 (excluding appendix)
 Summary (Abstract): 500 Words

EVALUATION
Two tier
1. Regional Level
2. Head Quarters Level
 Each Region will select the Best Two Projects in each category.
 Selected presentation with 10-15 video presentation (mp4) by the participant
will be forwarded to KVS (H.Q.)
 Shortlisted candidates will be invited to KVS (H.Q.) for a presentation.
 Team of 5 Academicians consisting of Joint Commissioner (Acad),
Deputy Commissioner (Acad)/DC (Trg) and two experts from
NCERT/SCERT/CBSE/reputed colleges etc.

ELIGIBILITY
School Teachers
 Any teacher of Pre-school (pre-primary), Elementary (primary and
upper primary), Secondary and Senior Secondary school recognised
by State Board/CBSE or any other recognised Board; and
 Teacher of any recognised Special Education School.
NUMBER OF AWARDS
For School Teachers 40
a. Pre-primary/Primary/Elementary school : 20
b. Secondary/Senior Secondary Schools: 20

Teachers and teacher educators shall submit project proposal in given
format to the Principal, Regional Institute of Education (RIE) of the region
concerned (Annexure-1) latest by 31st July every year.

Project proposals received for the Scheme will be evaluated at two levels:
First Level
 The project proposal will be evaluated at the first stage at the RIE level by two
experts/RIE faculty members independently to determine the merit of the
proposal; and
 The project proposal considered to be innovative by the RIE will be forwarded
to the Head, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, New Delhi.
Second Level
 Project proposals forwarded by the RIEs will be evaluated at the central level
(Department of Teacher education, NCERT, New Delhi) by two experts
independently.
 The teachers and teacher educators whose project proposals are selected
shall be informed to implement the project and submit the report along with
summary before the suggested last date.

IMPLEMENTATION
Teachers and teacher educators, whose project proposals have been
approved, will implement their proposal. Selected schools/institutions will
be visited by NCERT faculty for on-the-spot observation and interaction
with the Project coordinator/Head of the school/institution etc.

 A teacher or a teacher educator can undertake only one project during a particular year.
 The innovation should be based on the original work of individual.
 The Project Report should be of approximately 5,000 words excluding appendices.
 The Project Report along with its summary in about 500 words needs to be submitted.
 The Project Report may be written in English/Hindi or any other regional language.
However, the profile of the institution must be attached as given in English or Hindi even if
the paper is written in a regional language.
 The award will be given to the Teacher/Teacher educator (Project Coordinator). The
project coordinator and Head of the school/institution would be invited to present the
report in the National Seminar.
 Teachers and teacher educators getting the cash award during a particular year shall not be
entitled to receive the same again in the next three years. However, they may participate
in the scheme and if the project is selected for award they would receive the certificate
only.

SUBMISSION OF THE PROJECT REPORT
Two copies of the project report in about 5000 words and its summary in
about 500 words and a copy each of Annexures duly filled in should be
sent to the Head, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, New Delhi.

EVALUATION OF PROJECT REPORT
Teachers and teacher educators, whose project proposals are approved,
will implement their proposal and submit project report to Head,
Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-
110016 for evaluation.
Project Coordinator and Head of the School/Institute will be invited to
present the report in National Seminar. The final selection for giving a
cash award of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) and certificate will
be based on combined assessment rating of project report and its
presentation in the National Seminar.

ELIGIBILITY
School teachers of primary, upper primary, secondary and higher
secondary schools working in any recognized school in the Indian Union
under the following categories:
 Schools run by State Govt/UTs Administration, schools run by local
bodies, private schools affiliated to state boards, aided by State Govt. and
UT Administration.
 Central Govt. Schools i.e. Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya
Vidyalayas (JNVs), Central Schools for Tibetans (CTSA), Sainik Schools and
Schools run by Ministry of Defence (MOD), Schools run by Atomic Energy
Education Society (AEES).
 Schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) (other
than those at (i) and (ii) above)
 Schools affiliated to Council for Indian Schools Certificate Examination
(CISCE) (Other than those at (i), (ii) and (iii) above).

AWARD
Each awardee teacher will get an ICT Kit, a laptop and a commendation
certificate.
The awardees would be encouraged to function as mentors (resource
persons) for their area to motivate and train other teachers.
All the awardees will form a community of resource persons through
networking. Selected initiatives would be shared as best practices across
the country.

 Schools will forward detailed entries in prescribed format along with
supporting documents to the headquarters of the concerned
organization i.e. KVS, NVS, CBSE, CISCE, CTSA, Sainik Schools under
Ministry of Defence (MoD), AEES.
 A Committee under the Head of the organization of the autonomous
body will scrutinize all the entries and shortlist the candidates and
send the same to The Joint Director, CIET, NCERT New Delhi - 110016
for further action.
 The number of candidates to be nominated will be twice the number
of awards allotted.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
At CIET the short listed candidates would be required to make presentations
before a Committee. The composition of the Committee will be as follows:
a) Director, NCERT - Chairman
b) DDG, NIC - Member
c) Representative from Secondary Education
Bureau, Dept of SE&L, Ministry of HRD - Member
d) Representative from Dept of IT - Member
e) Joint Director, CIET - Member Secretary
The Committee would recommend the requisite number of
awardees to the Ministry with justification. At the Ministry level the
proposal would be scrutinized before the approval of the Minister.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION
 A teacher Portfolio should be submitted along with the Entry Form.
 The portfolio should include evidence of the teacher’s awareness and
use of ICT in his/ her own professional development, in improving his/
her teaching- learning, and in enhancing overall quality of education in
schools and community.
 The portfolio should document sustained systematic work using ICT
over the years.
 The portfolio should include relevant supporting documents, tools,
reports of activities, field visits, photographs, audios or videos.
 E-contents listed in the portfolio (Audios, Videos, Multimedia, Charts,
Maps, Models lesson plans and images) should be uploaded/ shared
online.

The definitions of innovation include:  Process of making improvements by introducing something new;  Process of implementing new ideas for improvement of teaching learning process;  An idea, strategy, method or device;  Changes that create a new dimension of performance in any aspect of teaching learning; and  A creative idea that is realized through the use of alternative strategies or techniques.  Capabilities of realising a desired change continuously in order to sustain it over a period of time. SUGGESTED EXAMPLES  Devise a new approach/instructional strategy in any subject area;  Prepare and use innovative teaching-learning materials including ICT;  Identification and mobilization /use of resources drawn from the local community/ environment for improvement of teaching-learning;  Develop local specific curricular materials for teaching-learning;  Develop innovative strategies for classroom management leading to an improvement in the organizational climate or better use of available resources in the class or school;  Management of inter-personal relationships;  Assessment of learning outcomes of students;  Evolve strategies for inculcation of Peace and other human values;  Devise strategies for educating differently abled children;  Study learning styles of children/student-teachers/ teacher educators; and Sensitizing and empowering disadvantaged groups. PRE-PROJECT PLANNING & CONDITIONS  Seek the permission of your Principal in advance for implementation  Paper should be based on the original and independent work of one person or a team of 2-3 persons. The cash prize will be divided equally among team members.  Only one paper can be submitted by an individual or a team in a year for the competition.  The paper should not be based on the participant’s dissertation or thesis submitted for MA/M.Ed, M.Phil / Ph.D degree.  The paper may be written in either in Hindi or in English.  Word limit: 2500-3500 (excluding appendix)  Summary (Abstract): 500 Words

Teachers and teacher educators shall submit project proposal in given format to the Principal, Regional Institute of Education (RIE) of the region concerned (Annexure-1) latest by 31st July every year. Project proposals received for the Scheme will be evaluated at two levels: First Level  The project proposal will be evaluated at the first stage at the RIE level by two experts/RIE faculty members independently to determine the merit of the proposal; and  The project proposal considered to be innovative by the RIE will be forwarded to the Head, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, New Delhi. Second Level  Project proposals forwarded by the RIEs will be evaluated at the central level (Department of Teacher education, NCERT, New Delhi) by two experts independently.  The teachers and teacher educators whose project proposals are selected shall be informed to implement the project and submit the report along with summary before the suggested last date.   • 16. IMPLEMENTATION Teachers and teacher educators, whose project proposals have been approved, will implement their proposal. Selected schools/institutions will be visited by NCERT faculty for on-the-spot observation and interaction with the Project coordinator/Head of the school/institution etc. KVS EKM Reg.   • 17.  A teacher or a teacher educator can undertake only one project during a particular year.  The innovation should be based on the original work of individual.  The Project Report should be of approximately 5,000 words excluding appendices.  The Project Report along with its summary in about 500 words needs to be submitted.  The Project Report may be written in English/Hindi or any other regional language. However, the profile of the institution must be attached as given in English or Hindi even if the paper is written in a regional language.  The award will be given to the Teacher/Teacher educator (Project Coordinator). The project coordinator and Head of the school/institution would be invited to present the report in the National Seminar.  Teachers and teacher educators getting the cash award during a particular year shall not be entitled to receive the same again in the next three years. Project Coordinator and Head of the School/Institute will be invited to present the report in National Seminar. The final selection for giving a cash award of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) and certificate will be based on combined assessment rating of project report and its presentation in the National Seminar. The awardees would be encouraged to function as mentors (resource persons) for their area to motivate and train other teachers.   • 26.  Schools will forward detailed entries in prescribed format along with supporting documents to the headquarters of the concerned organization i.e. KVS, NVS, CBSE, CISCE, CTSA, Sainik Schools under Ministry of Defence (MoD), AEES.  A Committee under the Head of the organization of the autonomous body will scrutinize all the entries and shortlist the candidates and send the same to The Joint Director, CIET, NCERT New Delhi - 110016 for further action.  The number of candidates to be nominated will be twice the number of awards allotted. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION  A teacher Portfolio should be submitted along with the Entry Form.  The portfolio should include evidence of the teacher’s awareness and use of ICT in his/ her own professional development, in improving his/ her teaching- learning, and in enhancing overall quality of education in schools and community.  The portfolio should document sustained systematic work using ICT over the years.  The portfolio should include relevant supporting documents, tools, reports of activities, field visits, photographs, audios or videos.  E-contents listed in the portfolio (Audios, Videos, Multimedia, Charts, Maps, Models lesson plans and images) should be uploaded/ shared online.
