understanding the nature of the universe, man, ethics,
art, love, and so on.
Any personal belief about how to live or how to deal with
a situation.

Philosophy of Education
Passing on the love of knowledge, skills,
wisdom, and cultural values
4. 1. What is your world view?
German weltanschauung – “look onto the world or
world outlook”
“A world view is a set of presuppositions
(assumptions which may be true, partially true or
entirely false) which we hold (consciously or
subconsciously, consistently or inconsistently) about
the basic make-up of our world.”- James W. Shire, The
Universe Next Door: A Basic Worldview Catalog
5. Parts of a worldview
Ideology or beliefs in God
Narrative or sacred writings
Norms or ethics or morality
Man

Value or purpose to live
A social element – educating future generations
6. Parts of a worldview

10. 5. What is wisdom and knowledge?
Wisdom – German – weisheit – “to know”
“The right use of exercise of knowledge ... the faculty of …
judging what is most just, proper, and useful”
Knowledge – Greek and Latin – rooted in “know”
“Knowledge is the awareness and understanding of facts,
truths or information gained in the form of experience or
learning.”
Questions for you:
What do you think are wise choices?
What knowledge – or set of facts – are needed to make
those choices?
11. 6. What is your definition of education?
“The propagation of a set of beliefs”
“We call it education if we already believe in it, and
propaganda if we don’t.”
“Instruction and discipline intended to enlighten the
understanding, correct the temper, and form the
manners and habits of youth, and fir them for
usefulness in their future situation.”
12. 7. What is your belief about parental
responsibility?
Who’s in charge of your child’s education?
“You are – until you hand that responsibility off to your
child (a process that begins early but takes decades!).”
Spark Your Child’s Success in Math and Science
Do you think that responsibility lies solely with the
parent? Or, does it take a village? Or, somewhere in
between?
13. About children?

Are children born with a sin nature, or all-good?
14. Work on it
Write it, edit, re-write
Work as a couple
Research
Make copies
Use it to determine why you teach each subject
Pray through the process
15. Philosophy of Education
"In (Christ) are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" Col. 2:3
We are convinced that all knowledge, wisdom and truth comes from God.
(Pro. 1:7, II Tim. 3:14-15, John 17:17). Also, man is sinful through the fall
of Adam (Rom. 3:23) and is in need of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Our purpose therefore is to present to children, as clearly as possible, the
truth about God and the world He created; to present the Word of God as
the authoritative source of all knowledge; to present the message of
salvation by faith through the virgin birth, death on the cross and the
bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6). We also strive to
inspire children to conform to the image of Jesus Christ.
16. Education, then, can be defined as the training of children with the gospel
message of salvation through Jesus Christ and teaching them to serve the
Lord in every area of their life as they go into the world. The center of all
they do is Christ and His message. We find the primary function of the
education process is to teach the Word of God.
"And these words, which, I am commanding you today shall be on your heart; and you shall teach
them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you
walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up." Deut. 6:6-7
We are further convinced that the Scriptures command parents to teach the
truths and statues of God to their children. This can most successfully be
accomplished by providing for all instruction in the shelter of the home.
All that is taught through Highland Christian School is based on the truth of
the Bible through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who teaches and
guides the believer.
