Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer born in 1571 who worked with Tycho Brahe and used his data to prove Copernicus's theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun. He discovered the three laws of planetary motion, proving that planets move in elliptical orbits with the Sun at one focus. Kepler had a difficult childhood, married twice, and had five children, though most died in childhood. He died of illness in 1630 at the age of 58.
