          Heat loss in the house

Roof is like :
  Cup during winter 25 – 30 %
  Hat during summer

We may lose even 30% heat through wrongly insulated roof

          Pitched Roof Thermal Insulation

In the case of usable attic we can install the insulation in the following ways:

•between the rafters
•between and under the rafters – KI PITCHED ROOF SYSTEMS
•above the rafters

The thickness of thermal insulation and its placement depends on:
             • required thermal insulation performance,
             • roof pitch,
             • rafter height,
             • type of roof cladding used,
             • type of roof membrane used.

                 Where put vapour barrier ?

A / Pitched roof ridge sectional view, with vapour barrier
installed between two thermal insulation layers. The ratio B / Pitched roof ridge sectional view with vapour barrier
of the insulation between the rafters (above the vapour installed under the thermal insulation layers
barrier) to the insulation under the rafters (below the
vapour barrier) should be 5:1.

Can GMW be installed at the entire
      height of the rafters?

In the case of using the highly water vapour
permeable roof membrane - the thermal insulation
in form of the GMW with Ecose Technology can
be installed at the entire height of the rafter.
When full hard boarding or low permeable roof
membrane is installed over the thermal insulation
of the GMW with Ecose Technology then a
ventilation gap of ca. 2.5 cm must be left under the
boarding.

STANDARD ROOF installation stages

Proper installation of the roof thermal insulation has significant impact on further use of the house.
It is not enough to properly insulate the roof, but you also need to perform all the works correctly to
provide measurable effects, and to get the investment cost returned sooner thanks to the heating cost
   savings.

Kā ietaupīt enerģiju, izmantojot jumtus – ieteikumi jumtu renovācijai

  • 1. Time to save energy by PITCHED ROOF with KNAUF INSULATION Riga 08.11.2012r Heat loss in the house Roof is like : Cup during winter 25 – 30 % Hat during summer We may lose even 30% heat through wrongly insulated roof 07/11/2012 2 1
  • 2. Pitched Roof Thermal Insulation 07/11/2012 3 Pitched Roof Thermal Insulation In the case of usable attic we can install the insulation in the following ways: •between the rafters •between and under the rafters – KI PITCHED ROOF SYSTEMS •above the rafters The thickness of thermal insulation and its placement depends on: • required thermal insulation performance, • roof pitch, • rafter height, • type of roof cladding used, • type of roof membrane used. 07/11/2012 4 2
  • 3. Two layers Pitched Roof KI Systems 07/11/2012 5 Where put vapour barrier ? A / Pitched roof ridge sectional view, with vapour barrier installed between two thermal insulation layers. The ratio B / Pitched roof ridge sectional view with vapour barrier of the insulation between the rafters (above the vapour installed under the thermal insulation layers barrier) to the insulation under the rafters (below the vapour barrier) should be 5:1. Recommended arrangement for KI ROOFS 07/11/2012 6 3
  • 4. kind of vapour barrier vapor permeability equivalent diffusion [g/m2/24h] thickness of air layer Sd [m] Vapor barrier < 0,01 100 – 1000 (with metal or bitumen) Vapor retarder 0,2- 0,5 20 – 60 (PE foil thickness 0,15 – 0,2 mm) Vapor regulator 4 -700 0,1 -10 (carrier from PP fiber) 07/11/2012 7 Can GMW be installed at the entire height of the rafters? In the case of using the highly water vapour permeable roof membrane - the thermal insulation in form of the GMW with Ecose Technology can be installed at the entire height of the rafter. When full hard boarding or low permeable roof membrane is installed over the thermal insulation of the GMW with Ecose Technology then a ventilation gap of ca. 2.5 cm must be left under the boarding. 07/11/2012 8 4
