4. Joel’s history
As a two-year-old, Selwood was forced to
wear splints on his leg to help overcome
a walking disability. Before Joel played
football for the Geelong Cats he played
for Bendigo under 18’s. He was the vice
captain and his position was half forward,
he was regarded as the best player on the
team!
5. Continued
Joel’s family were also athletes his mum Maree a
professional runner and tennis player and his
brother Adam and Troy also great football
players, they both currently play for West Coast
Eagles. Selwood displayed athletic talent from an
early age. He was the state hurdling champion
from under-10s through to the under-15s, and in
one year held every running and jumping record
at the Bendigo Sports Centre, except the 100
metres sprint.
