Secure and practical authentication in API PlatformRobin Chalas
The Security part of your API is not something that belongs to API Platform itself. Instead, the framework lets you rely on the Symfony Security integration, including Symfony's built-in authenticators and community bundles that build on top of it.
Stateful VS stateless, Cookies VS Headers, Standard protocols VS home-made authentication flows... There's a lot of alternatives, which can make it very hard to find the right one.
In this talk we will review all these possibilities to see how you should secure your API depending on your application and infrastructure. Last but not least, we will discover a novelty that will help solving this issue.
Chrome Extensions are fun to build and very powerful, thanks to the expansive API Google provides. This talk will explore techniques for structuring and testing your extension projects, using tools such as Grunt, Browserify and Venus.js. A quick refresher of major extension development concepts will be also be reviewed.

Isomorphic JavaScript applications can share the same code and run on both the front end and back end. It is also a spectrum containing applications that share minimal bits of validation logic with ones that share a bulk of the application code. Nashorn is a new JavaScript engine for Java that was released with Java 8. The Nashorn JavaScript engine makes isomorphic web apps on the JVM possible by allowing the exact same browser code to run on the server. This enables us to achieve the don’t-repeat-yourself (DRY) principle, by reducing repetition in a multitier architecture. This presentation covers the key concepts, rationale, and categories of Isomorphic JavaScript and how it makes your large applications maintainable.
In this session we will learn how to get started with AngularJS 2 and TypeScript. We will cover AngularJS 2 concepts both for developers who have used Angular 1 as well as those new to Angular. Along the way we will show you how TypeScript helps you develop AngularJS 2 applications.
PhoneGap (aka Cordova) is a cross-platform framework for developing mobile apps using standard web development tools like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Join Troy Miles to learn how to create mobile apps with PhoneGap by building a simple but full-featured app during this hands-on class. Troy explores PhoneGap’s important capabilities, including GPS, camera, and audio recordings. Because JavaScript has a reputation as a somewhat difficult language, Troy teaches techniques for keeping your code robust and clean. To give your app the appropriate look and feel for the device on which it is running, the class will use the open source Chocolate Chip UI framework for testing. Troy shares ways to debug the code by running it as a web app, using browser development tools, or as a phone app, using the Chrome browser’s remote debugging features. Leave with the basics you need to start building your own cross-platform mobile apps.
Making Apps More Human - Intro to Microsoft Cognitive ServicesMatthew Soucoup
Part of the human experience is being able to look at a scene and judge what is going on; who/what the participants are, and know if they are happy or sad, frightened or mad. Or recognize a person’s voice and understand a conversation.
But the days where only humans can do that are numbered.
Microsoft Cognitive Services harnesses the power of machine learning and provides a set of 24 APIs that allow for your application to become more human.
In this session, you will see some of the power of Cognitive Services as we demo key features to build an intelligent app. You will learn how to create and invoke them via REST services to make your app more human.
An introduction the big picture of the Appcelerator Platform and the architecture and principles behind Titanium and Alloy to get you started. Created and presented by myself and Pierre van de Velde at meetup.com/TitaniumNL.
The Web is a vital part of our daily lives, and as we begin using the Web for tasks traditionally performed on the desktop, such as word processing, software as a service (SaaS) and software + services models are becoming more important. Web developers are caught in the cross hairs of these merging industries. They have the know-how of web development but, often, none of the skills for traditional desktop or mobile development.
Enter Titanium. Appcelerator Titanium is an open source platform for developing native desktop and mobile applications using the web technologies you're already familiar with. Now, web developers can use their skills to develop for both the Web and desktop/mobile platforms. Ben Ramsey will demonstrate how to create a simple application in Titanium Desktop, showing examples using JavaScript and PHP working together in the Titanium run time environment to power dynamic desktop applications that communicate easily with external web services.
Creating 3 Beautiful Apps At Once - Intro To Xamarin.FormsMatthew Soucoup
You read that title correct – you can create an app for three different platforms all at once using Xamarin.Forms.
Xamarin.Forms has come a long way since the days of when its recommended use was for simple apps and prototyping only and in this session, I will show you the advances made and how to utilize them to create beautiful apps yourself. You will see the basic structure of a Xamarin.Forms app and how to use XAML and the built-in controls to create a UI. You’ll learn about the MVVM pattern and data binding so information can be presented and modified in the UI and app logic layer with ease. You’ll walk through accessing platform specific native controls – from XAML! At the end of this session – you’ll be able to create a beautiful app – make that three beautiful apps – with Xamarin.Forms.

Intro to iPhone Development with MonoTouchMichael Koby
With MonoTouch, you can leverage your existing .NET C# skill set to create functional iPhone applications that you can also sell in the iPhone App Store. During this presentation, Michael will be giving an overview of MonoTouch, a brief introduction to Mono, the framework that MonoTouch is built on, and will even rebuild the Twitter search application that be built last month using C# and MonoTouch.
Introduction to TypeScript's Compiler API which can be used to generate functional TypeScript code in an automatic manner. Involves TypeScript's abstract syntax tree (AST) and how to use it to construct consistent and maintainable source code. Presented at Berlin.JS meetup on January 16th, 2020.
The Cloud Foundry APIs provide a rich set of information for anyone trying to gain insight into the inner workings of the platform. This presentation explores some of the APIs, and provides some practical techniques for non-coder ways of interacting with those APIs.
A talk from The Combine 2011.
APIs Demystified is intended take the magic out of APIs for people that aren't programmers. We will discuss what Application Programming Interface means, starting with a general overview and then moving the focus to web APIs and how they are becoming the building blocks of today's applications. A discussion of why a company might decide to build an API follows.
Connexion is an open source API first REST framework for Python, built on top of Flask and based on OpenAPI/Swagger, targeted for microservice development. Connexion automagically handles request routing, oauth2 security, request validation and response serialization based on an OpenAPI 2.0 Specification file in YAML, so you don’t have to care about boilerplate anymore.
Because it is based on Flask it supports everything that Flask does, including deployment options and extensions.
At Zalando we’ve adopted “API First” as one of our key engineering principles, to ensure our API are robust, consistent, general and
abstracted from specific implementation and use cases. But when we tried to implement this principle for the first time we were faced with the lack of a python framework to achieve it in a easy fashion - there were several frameworks that produce a swagger definition from the
implementation but none that do it the other way around - so we decided to fill that gap.
Henning will show how to get started with OpenAPI+Connexion, present some real-world use cases and deployment options such as Kubernetes.
