DYLAN BURTON
Dylan is one of three current valets who
attended Cyprus High School together.
His senior year nearly all of his classes
were music related. He played concert
band and orchestra. Dylan started
playing hockey at the age of 10, and after
high school he moved to Cedar City,
where he attended SUU, playing in their
marching band while competing in a
hockey league. He attended many
Grizzlies games growing up, where he
learned to love the game. As a high
school senior he won the state hockey
championship.

A ME
In July of 2007 A Me and her family spent
the better part of two days on flights as
they made their way to Salt Lake City
from Burma. When she first arrived A
worked in a hotel, and has been with
Utah Health for nearly six years. She
loves to cook, and her co-workers are big
fans of her chili (which is known to be
spicy). She and her husband have two
sons, a thirteen year old who lives with
them, and an adult son, who also works
for Utah Health, in Distro at the main
hospital.

MARIA MELENDEZ
Originally from Mexico Maria has lived in Salt
Lake City for 28 years. All three of her
children were born at University Hospital, and
the kindness she was shown by staff here
inspired her to begin her employ with us. She
has kept it in the family, as one daughter
works for Nutrition Care and another works
the front desk at Daybreak. She says maybe
her 15 year old son will work here one day
too. Maria enjoys cooking and says her
specialties are traditional Mexican enchiladas
and tamales. To relax she enjoys sewing,
making her own dresses. Each year she knits
beanies for babies and donates them to
Primary Children’s Hospital

MARIA MELENDEZ
Originaria de México, María ha vivido en
Salt Lake City por 28 años. Cada uno de
sus tres hijos nació en University Hospital,
y la bondad que el equipo de atención
médica le demostró la inspiró a trabajar
aquí con nosotros. Es algo que comparte
con su familia, ya que una hija suya
trabaja por Cuidados de Nutrición
(Nutrition Care) y otra hija trabaja en la
recepción en Daybreak. Ella dice que tal
vez su hijo de 15 años trabaje aquí
también. A María le encanta cocinar, y dice
que sus especialidades son las enchiladas
y los tamales mexicanos tradicionales.
Para relajarse, le gusta coser y ella cose
sus propios vestidos. Cada año teje
gorritos de lana para bebés y los dona al
Hospital de Primary Children’s.

CARLOS ‘CHARLY’ BECERRA
Carlos has lived in Salt Lake City for 24
years, arriving from Mexico just as the
Stockton-to-Malone Utah Jazz teams were
making their finals runs. He is a basketball
fan and collects Jazz memorabilia. In
addition to signed team memorabilia,
Carlos is quite the shoe collector and has
a large assemblage of athletic sneakers.
He enjoys golfing and frequents the
Bountiful course, though he loves swinging
the sticks in St. George when he can. He
and his wife have four children, ages
24,22,18 and 20.

JASON SUBIDA
Basketball is THE sport in Jason’s home
country of the Philippines. Jason had a
dream of becoming a basketball player,
and after moving to Salt Lake City with his
family in 2010 he returned home shortly
after to pursue his goal. His hoop dream
ended after two torn ACLs. He still loves
to play, but is more careful. Following his
recovery he returned to Salt Lake to
pursue a better life and to reunite with his
family. He is now working on improving his
English and pursuing educational
opportunities, with the help of a co-worker.
When not at University Hospital, where he
is a patient transporter, Jason spends his
time with his family.

DAYSI ALARCORN
“El Salvador is so beautiful” Daysi says of
her home country. Though she enjoys
living in Salt Lake City she says she
misses the beaches and the food. Daysi
loves to make Salvadoran dishes,
especially her pork pupusas. Two of
Daysi’s children live in Salt Lake, and she
has a daughter who is in El Salvador.
When she is not at work Daysi loves to go
for walks, and spend time outside. She
spends time with her grandchildren (four of
the seven live here). Zumba is another
way she enjoys getting some exercise.
She has been with University of Utah
Health since 1999.

DAYSI ALARCÓRN
“El Salvador es tan bello” dice Daysi de
su país natal. Aunque le gusta vivir en
Salt Lake City, dice que extraña las
playas y la comida. A Daysi le encanta
preparar los platos salvadoreños,
especialmente sus pupusas de puerco.
Dos de sus hijos viven en Salt Lake, y
tiene una hija en El Salvador. Cuando no
está trabajando, Daysi adora caminar y
pasar tiempo afuera. Ella pasa tiempo
con sus nietos (cuatro de los siete viven
aquí). Practicar Zumba es otra forma de
hacer ejercicio que disfruta. Ella ha
trabajado para University of Utah Health
desde 1999.

EDUARDO SANDOVAL
Eduardo is from Salinas, California, a town
lauded for its agriculture. His family has a
long history in agriculture. Eduardo and
his family moved to Salt Lake City in April
of 2020 and love it here. His wife, Claudia
also works for Environmental Services, on
the Surgical team. They have three
children and a granddaughter who is three
months old. He has a Husky named Maya
and enjoys taking walks with her near Park
City, the Hogle Zoo and Dimple Dell Park.
Eduardo has also worked in restaurants,
and enjoys putting his cooking skills to
work, making traditional Mexican dishes.

AVERY TANNER
Avery is a freshman at the University of
Utah. She is interested in interior design
and may pursue that. She has played
soccer for most of her life, including on
high school teams. Avery loves to travel,
specifically to tropical places, the Bahamas
being her favorite. When she is able she
likes to spend time outdoors. Though she
has not worked on the valet team very
long, she has had the opportunity to help
build the new concierge service for our
patients.

BECKY HERNANDEZ
Becky and her husband David have been
married for 34 years. They have three
children: two daughters and a son. They
also have three grandsons (6, 4, and
almost 2) and Becky loves to spend time
with them when she is not working. She
teaches them how to cook and has fun
watching cartoons with them. Becky also
has a brother who works for EVS, on Team
F. She loves spending time with her
husband and is looking forward to the time
when they can get back to shopping and
going to the movies.
